Listen, I used to be 5'3 and 95 lbs... i'm now 29 and am 5'10 180 lbs... I'm damn near doubled in weight and can max bench 210 lbs.. I haven't touched a 'roid in my life.. I DID use creatine for a while, like a span of a month. While working out full till... I'm the size i mentioned about and I can hit a softball 300'... at least that's what the fence is marked off at.. doesn't mean I'm on roids..

Bonds is the greatest player of this generation, even if he is an a$$hole at times.

While I am not arguing for or against Bonds' alleged use of illegal substances...this statement is asinine. It looks like you are comparing yourself now (29 y/o) to when you were 12! People, that is called puberty, not steroids! Of course you are going to get bigger when you are still naturally growing! However, you don't grow 6+ inches after you are 18 or so, and you almost certainly don't double your weight (if you do, it isn't muscle).
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a ttoal jmulbe and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

Actually I was a sophomore in high school, about 16 years old... that's 13 years difference, when ironically enough, that's about how long Bonds has been in baseball, actually he's been in longer, and i'm sure he's got MUCH better trainers and weight equipment that I had.

Packing on wieght and muscle is very easy with suppliments and working out. All the Hr's in 2001 were more of an issue of the balls theywere using.

And the fact the ballparks are getting smaller as well...

It's like that is softball leagues too, when I started playing 13 years ago, you'd see like 1 or 2 homers a game... now most teams got a few players that'll hit that many out per game apiece.

Re: How did Barry Bonds get so great so fast?

                  Wow, what a hot issue.

Look folks, none of us know whether Bonds is juicing or not. Is he bigger than he was in his Bucs days? Yes, absolutely. I tend to doubt that he is because he has stayed pretty healthy at 38, if he was on roids he would likely be getting hurt. Either way, Bonds explosion over the last 3 years has been due to his uncanny ability to hit virtually any pitch that is in the strike zone out of the park. He is locked in like no one I have seen. He was this big 2 years before he hit 73 and no one was accusing him of juicing then. Steroids do not improve your ability to see the ball or to hit the ball. Four years ago you could still get Bonds to chase pitches now and then or to swing poorly. Bonds figured something out and now he only swings when he knows its a good pitch and he rarely misses. Steroids do not help with that. (See Jose Canseco)

Whoever claimed Luis Gonzalez was on steroids, have you noticed he looks like the damn scarecrow, he's not that big. Brett Boone I will admit is likely juicing. His head is freakish looking and he has been quoted as being against drug testing in baseball, saying that he thinks there is nothing wrong with players taking steroids.

As for old man strength, trust me young guys its true. Assuming that you do something active with your life (typing in OS forum does not count) you will naturally gain muscle as you grow older. That is why men who have blue collar jobs (construction etc.) look like they can kick the crap out of the guys in suits on wall st. with their Bowflexes. Bonds would be alot stronger at 38 without working out, just imagine what daily workouts for the last 20 years have done for him. If the players of the past could have stayed healthy into their late 30's I think we would have seen alot more post 35 offensive explosions.

That was me, but I didn't claim he was on steroids, I just mentioned why it seemed that those two players have power surges and no one thinks twice, but Bonds has one (not even as drastic as the other two) and people are all about the 'roids...
