Re: David Ortiz...Zero home runs?
Classic first baseman. This isn't much of a surprise when you look at the history of guys that follow Ortiz's playing pattern.
It seems that big 1B, that hit for power die out around this time of their career. A guy like Frank Thomas was able to avoid this problem probably because he wasn't really a classic homerun hitter. He managed to work against the expectations of declined performance until a later age."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: David Ortiz...Zero home runs?
I don't think Ortiz was on the juice at all, I just think you're getting a guy with an incredibly long swing that is finally meeting up with age.
To people saying look at his numbers compared to the Twins and the Red Sox. Look at the teams of those days. Boston gave Ortiz a lot more freedom than the Twins did during the early Gardenhire days. Boston said swing away, swing hard, swing often and he did, and was able to become a prolific hitter. The Twins largely kept him under wraps, told him to cut down on his swing to avoid strikeouts. If you look at the difference in K numbers, they are staggering which suggests a different style of play, not just "STEROIDS"PSN: VoicesWrestling

Re: David Ortiz...Zero home runs?
I was at the Angels game yesterday.
I don't believe it to be steroids. I think we've got an older player, coming off a knee and wrist injury, with a long swing.
The recent injuries and age have caught up to him....
