I hear a lot of similar complaints about McClendon, but honestly, i'm very pleased with him... Dusty is an excellent coach, but keep in mind in SF a couple years ago the offensive output was so high that there was a LOT of room for error when it came to handling a pitching staff.

That's basically what i'm getting at....he knows how to teach hitters fundamentally solid swings, he knows how to spread a winning attitude, he kinda knows when to hit&run. Put pitching has never been his strong suit. Lloyd McClendon could manage my team any day of the week. I was a big McClendon fan from as far away as Seattle in the early 90s. If McClendon gets fired, someone needs to hire him. I was worried the M's might end up with Dusty Baker...I'm glad they got Bob Melvin. I wanted either Jim Riggleman or Melvin. I was scared to death of Dusty Baker or Buddy Bell, though.Comment

Re: A note to Cub fans...
I just don't like his subbing practices. He RARELY has the everyday starting line-up in because they're taking a "break." I think through the first 30+ games this year I have seen the everyday starting line-up 3-4 times! It's insane! How does he expect them to gel together and to get to know each other on a day-to-day basis?? Considering 1/2 of the infield is new (Choi, Grudzielanek) they all need time to work together. Also, the team as a whole needs to know what they're capable of with their starters!Comment

Re: A note to Cub fans...
Supposedly that is part of Dusty's genius giving everyone opportunities to play and getting them to accept that, the concept of team.
I would love to see Choi play everyday but I understand that he is trying to keep Karros fresh, same thing with Harris and Martinez. If the manager is upfront about these kinds of moves it usually works out well.
Dusty seems pretty sound strategy wise and handling a pitching staff is a crap shoot, it's always easy to second guess when things go wrong.
I like Riggleman when he was with the Cubs and rarely questioned his moves, but managing a team entails more than that, Dusty seems to have that extra edge. He took teams to pretty good records that year after year didn't look like they belonged up that high. But I know you winning is the only thing guys will say he didn't win the WS. But that alone is hardly the measure of a manager.Comment

Re: A note to Cub fans...
For some reason the Brewers always play good against the Cubs. Brewers are like 21-21 when they play at Wrigley Field and not sure what their record is against the Cubs at Miller Park. I am sure they have a winning record against them. I just hope the Cubs win Monday against the Brewers since I will be there.Comment
