    Gamel? or Hall?

Maybe only Brewer fans care about this one, but I am posting it anyway.
Should the Brewers make Gamel their full time third baseman? If so, what should they do with Hall?

Gamel should be their starting third baseman. He tore it up in the farm, and Hall struggles offensively. Gamel should at least get the shot to take the spot this season, if he is a hit, you can just use Hall as a utility guy, or trade him all together for some bullpen pitching or something.

This is a tough one. I live near the border, so I get both Twins games and Brewers games on my DirecTV. I think it's a mistake, so don't tell anyone

While it is exciting that Gamel has performed decently since coming up, I think this decision comes down to a simple factor. $$$$$$

Hall is set to make $8.4 million dollars in 2010, and the club has an option for $9.25 million for 2011. I don't think there's any way the Brewers can pay Hall that much to be mainly a backup. So I think if the Brewers think that Gamel can be the everyday guy starting next year, you'll see them try to shop him as trade bait. You can always use more bullpen help, so maybe they can get a solid middle innings guy for him...

As for this year, I think they should just continue to work Gamel in, give him some starts against righties and use him mostly in pinch hit situations.

The easy solution for at least the rest of this season would be to move Hall to 2B. The Brewers have gotten zero production out of the 2B spot since Rickie Weeks went down and it would allow for the Brewers to get AB's for both Hall and Gamel. Hall has started 89 games at 2B in his career, and while he has been error prone there, he is error prone wherever he plays.

I like Halls glove better but I know Gamel will be a better hitter so right now I guess its a toss up because we all remember Braun at third!

Oh yeah, I forgot Weeks was injured. Good point rsox. IMO this is the best thing the Brewers could do now. Hall at 2B is better offensively than McGehee or Cousell (or whoever else they trot out there). The Brewers have enough offense to cover for the downgrade defensively.

Hall is not better offensively than either McGehee or Counsell. He can't hit right handed pitching, period. He's decent in a platoon where he only starts against lefties or as a pinch hitter against a lefty specialist, but he's pretty much proven he's not an everyday major league player. Hall's hitting .209/.278/.351 this season, with his new batting stance Counsell is hitting .311/.370/.402 this season. He's even outslugging Hall. Right now Counsell is going to be starting everyday at 2B with McGehee getting an occasional start against a lefty.

I was going by career stats. We'll see if Counsell can keep that up all season. Hall and Counsell have pretty much the same career AVG. Counsell's career slugging percentage is a whopping 2 points above his on base percentage. McGehee's SLG is below his OBP. The Brewers don't play the on-base game. They bat Rickie Weeks leadoff (when healthy). The man bats .257 and strikes out more often than he gets hits. They play the we're gonna hit some home runs and hope our pitching keeps us in it game.

So, IMO, Hall is a better fit for this team at 2nd if they were going to start Gamel everyday at third. But I don't watch them every day -only about once a week, if that, so I'm not watching Hall struggle like I'm sure you are

Anyways, do you agree that they're paying Bill Hall entirely too much money to sit on the bench? And furthermore, what were they thinking when they signed him to that deal??

If you start Hall at 2nd and Gamel at 3rd then your D is automatically horrible. They don't have enough offense to account for that. Hall will get traded before the deadline.

Their D is going to be horrible regardless. They still have Prince at first, who is a horrible defensive 1st baseman. They don't really have one above average infielder, although JJ Hardy is solid.

Thing is, Hall was a liability at the plate. Gamel looks like he could be a ROTY type player offensively. It's worth the move to start Gamel. There's still plenty of use for Hall. He can play the OF and IF, he could be a solid utility guy for them.

Kneejerk reaction to a player who had a career.

The only way that happens is if the Brewers are willing to eat the majority of his salary for next season.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Signed thru 2010 with an option for 2011.

The problem is his salary for next season is over $8 million and no one is going to want to pick that up.
