Re: Gamel? or Hall?
Their D is going to be horrible regardless. They still have Prince at first, who is a horrible defensive 1st baseman. They don't really have one above average infielder, although JJ Hardy is solid.
Thing is, Hall was a liability at the plate. Gamel looks like he could be a ROTY type player offensively. It's worth the move to start Gamel. There's still plenty of use for Hall. He can play the OF and IF, he could be a solid utility guy for them.
If Gamel plays as suspected you don't think they'd be willing to do that?Comment

Re: Gamel? or Hall?
I think they might consider springing for a chunk of that salary for one year if they thought they could get a piece they needed to make a deep playoff run. They are averaging over 37,000 attendance per game, 9th in MLB. If there was a time they could afford it, it is now.Comment

Re: Gamel? or Hall?
Hall is lost at the plate. He tries to pull everything and once in awhile gets lucky and gets a hit.
It's Gamel time, IMO. Use Hall as a late-innings defensive replacement, and maybe a super-sub at a few other positions like he was earlier in his career. He could see some time at 2B, I'd be alright with that (although Macha should definitely ride Counsell while he's hot).
I do feel a little bad for Hall. He's always been a team player for the most part, and he's gone through several position changes to try and help the team put the best possible lineup out there. But baseball is about production first-and-foremost. The bottom line is that Hall's approach at the plate needs to be completely overhauled. Until that happens, Gamel appears to be our best option overall at the hot corner.Green Bay Packers | Milwaukee Brewers | Bradley Braves | Wisconsin Badgers
