Fossum has a great Curve, a good fastball, and still developing a change. We didnt just decline on Vasquez and Colon for nothing. This guy will be something someday.

Casey Fossum will be a solid # 3 starter some day. The Sox did not keep him because they thought he was better than Colon, he's not and never will be. It was a shrewd economic decision. Hillenbrand and Fossum are young and make very little money right now. Colon would have added another bloated contract to the Red Sox payroll. Theo "Boy Wonder" Epstein learned under Billy "Moneyball" Beane that you don't trade away players who have bargain salaries for ones who are overpaid, even if the overpaid ones are better. If the Sox made that deal you can forget about Giambi, Ortiz, Millar and Mueller, cause they wouldn't have been able to afford them. Good move by Theo. However, don't get confused into thinking that Fossum is anything better than a potential three starter, he's not.Comment

Boo Yah!" I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "

Re: Official Yankees Vs. Red Sox Thread.
The fact that fossum is a south paw played a role too. Granted colone sounds better, but three years from now Fossum could be a "solid #3"(#2 if lowe wants alot of money), and Colon throws so hard he might throw his arm off his body. How many hard throwers miss four years of their carees with rehab an many surgeries?
I'm not disagreeing with you, money had ALOT to do with it, but it wasn't the only factor.Comment
