a huge part of the problem is the media,
they over-covered the Gamboa incedent then we have copy cat crimes.
the losers who do this stuff don't care about consequences, they want the spot light, it's their caim to fame, and the media gives them exactly what they want.

      Very true.

The thing is, though, I'm not sure people run onto the field to get on tv (if I remember correctly they never show someone on the field that doesn't attack somebody) as much as it is to get the fame and cheers from the people in the stadium.

I've seen someone jump on the field once (at Wrigley) and I don't think anyone around me cheered. We all stood up to watch, but didn't really cheer. He seemed to be hamming it up to the bleechers where most of the drunks are located.

My take on it would be, the dude is usually drunk and is more than likely talked into it by people/friends around him. Then gets the admiration of those who are just like him. Drunk and stupid.

Personally, I support what legislature is trying to do in Illinois. Anyone who get on the field get an automatic 30 days in jail and a fine (memory escapes me but I think it's $1000). And that is for anyone. If you attack a player, run around naked or hop the fence to celebrate a championship; you're gettin' locked up.

The problem is not just the few idiots who run on the field, but the 50,000 people who cheer them when they do. I know that the fans who have attacked umpires, coaches and players have not been cheered, but they were partly motivated, I believe, by the fact that they have seen so many other people cheered when they run onto the field. Baseball fans need to boo loudly whenever someone foolishly runs on the field. The cameras need to ignore those fools like they do here in Boston. And the people who do it need to be punished.

The court here in Boston got tired of prosecuting those cases because they felt it wasted the valuable time of the courts. Now, the Red Sox take care of it internally, they have a room like casinos do where the Boston Police get to work out some pent up frustration on the idiot who has just made them run around the field and look stupid.

People need to stop cheering the morons, and those morons need to be dealt with harshly, by the courts of the teams.

I think they just need to put up some stiffer fines and stuff like that. Like if you throw something on the field or attack a player you should be kicked out and given a big fine. Like $500-10,000 depending on the offense. And should not be allowed to go back to a MLB game.
