I thought Mo Vaughn retired like 4 years ago, or was that just his talent?

Anyways, Piazza would be even MORE of a liability at first base than at the position he has played since high school. Anybody who knows baseball knows that.

I disagree. Scott Hatteberg had not played 1B when the A's signed him in December 2001. They told him he was going to be their 1B not their catcher and he started working at it. He started off slow at it and by the end of 2002 some were calling him one of the best defensive 1B's in the game. I don't think they should throw Piazza in at 1B if he comes back this year, but that should be the plan for next season. Hopefully he will come back this year and break the HR record at catcher. Than in the offseason he can start learning to play 1B and become a First Baseman next season and get the bad play out of the way in spring training and April.

Oh, and for whoever asked, 75% of Mo Vaughn's contract is covered by insurance if an injury ends his career, which it appears it has.

Albert Bell is on the 60 day DL.He retired but he didin't accept a buyout of some sort so the O's have to pay his entire salary cause Belle ,well did what any real hman being would do and thats take the cash.Mo Vaughn will be in the same situation. He can either accept a buyout or realize that he will retire and that taking the free dough would be almost like stealing. We will see what kind of man Mo really is.Will he do an Albert Belle?Or will he be unselfish and not accpet to length of that huge 17 million$ contract.

Sad to see such a great player go down like this. Well, I hope I'm speaking too soon. I wish him luck.

I feel sorry for him, even though he as underachieved badly for the Mets he has always been a nice character guy.

sorry for him? i think not..not with those poor stats and HUGE contract although the mets now only pay 25% and he doesn't even deserve that.

I feel sorry for him cause he is a very good guy. He is not poor, nor will be, by any means. But it must not be easy for him to accept the fact that playing baseball could cripple his leg for life. Basically he is forced to retire.

Hey but as a Met fan I can't say I'm sorry for gettting rid of his HUGE contract!
