    The King vs. The Doc

Ok, I have a huge dilemma with this, who is the better pitcher, Felix "The King" Hernandez or Roy "Doc" Halladay. Both are undeniably dominant, but which is better? I would said Felix because he is only 23 and Halladay is over 30 and Felix is going to be an absolute monster, much like Halladay is now.

They're slightly different pitchers but i'd say Hernandez will be just as dominating or moreso then Doc over the course of his career. Make no mistake about it, even as a rookie you could see the M's had something special with Hernandez. I think he'll be a high strikeout type of pitcher who'll get a ton of wins over his career.

Doc still has at least 4-5 more dominating years left in the tank and with the way he pitches I can definitely see him pitching into his early 40s. He's a guy who can put up high K numbers but that's not really his game. He's a pitch to contact guy and it'll be interesting to see how that approach to pitching will fare for him when he starts losing his stuff late in his career.

Hernandez will be the most dominating pitcher in the American League very soon, if not all of the MLB. His stuff is unmatched IMO.

Which is why I have a hard time comparing them. Right now, I'd say Doc, no question. His track record speaks for itself and Felix can only hope to be that consistent and sustain success for that long.

With Felix, a lot of people forget that even though he's been around 5 years, he's still only 23 years old and younger than guys like Lincecum, Hamels, Cain, Bucholz, Lester, Billingsley, Price, etc. He's still maturing and learning to be consistent mentally, but when he's on, he might be the best in baseball (see his June/July stretch before the Toronto game). If he stays healthy and avoids burning out like most young "flame-throwers" called up in their teens, I think he'll have the better career between the two.

Halladay.. Hernandez has great physical talent, but he's a head case and injury prone, and I doubt he'll ever live up to the hype.

With the exception of his clunker against Toronto earlier in the week he allowed 11 earned runs over his last 12 starts. To me, that's living up to the hype. Whether he can stay consistent throughout his career is another story.

Tim Lincecum. Now that that is out of the way. The Doc.

That is not living up to the hype. Living up to the hype is winning a Cy young at the age of 24. Any ways I like King, but I agree with BK. He is a lot like Sanchez. Have all the tools in the world, but like the control and head issues to get it done.

We'll see. Felix doesn't turn 24 until 2010. What was Lincecum's line when he was 23?

Just curious, how many times have you or BK watched Felix pitch this year? I've missed about 2 starts. Earlier in the year he was the same immature Felix. I've seen a transition since then.

How the hell is Felix injury prone? The guy already has 800+ MLB innings pitched and is barely 23.

And how is he a head case?

Felix will never put it together. He is fat and ugly.

Hernandez is excellent, but he needs to improve his control to be in Halladay's league.

I never knew looks had to do with pitching.

David Wells and Fernando Valenzuela weren't exactly hunks and they had pretty good careers. If you're going to criticize someone at least give real reasons.
