How much taint does the Red Sox 2004 Championship have?

It was supposed to be a great story about how the Red Sox broke the curse but now that their two best players have been busted, is their championship tainted?

Does anyone even care since everyone was doing it?

I know a large percentage of players were doing it but to me it takes a lot away from what the Red Sox did that year.

None...as Ken Burns mentioned in an interview...if you open a baseball encyclopedia it says the 1919 World Champs are the Cincy Reds. There is no asterisk, there is no note saying it was tainted...and yet that series was thrown to them. It's all a part of a larger story and honestly I think the hubub over PED's is out of control.

Tons because Bronson Arroyo used Andro and Amphetemines

IMO not much because I believe the large majority were on something.

What? This isn't a freelance (Erod) topic?!

Anyways, it may taint it for some (personally it kinda does to me) but you can't take away what the Sox did that year.

None, they were facing teams with guys who were using as well.

Not to mention I think people overestimate a little bit how much steriods help a player in baseball. Steriods may help somebody hit some more home runs here and there but baseball is still more about great hand cordination and other skills more than raw power.

All it does is shutup the delusional Red Sox fans who thought they were clean while the rest of baseball was dirty.

For normal people who realized that cheating was rampant throughout baseball, it doesn't really change anything.

Don't kid yourself. They help immensely.

Do you really think it's a coincidence that the games best players over the past decade were all juicers?

                etc.

Bonds had never hit 50 hrs in a season, he juices up and hits 73. Can you still tell me they don't help?

Also, look at a lot of these numbers before testing and after testing. There is a reason that a lot of 50 hr guys fell completely off the map. See Brady Anderson, Luis Gonzalez, Javier Lopez, Sosa, Brett Boone, etc.

I've seen first hand the effects they can have. THEY HELP!

Every World Series championship in the last decade-plus is "tainted."

Not really anything you can do about it at this point.

Doesn't change a thing. I'm sure every championship team in the past couple decades had at least one player who used PEDs. That doesn't make it any better, but they're probably all "tainted."

As a level headed baseball enthusiast (1st) and Red Sox fan (2nd), I happen to agree.

Agreed. I'm sure most if not all of the championship teams in the steroid era have had tainted players.

I think if you had players that took steroids you should have to give up your World Series championship. And you should have to give it back to the team you beat. So in the Red Sox case. They should give it to the Cardinals. AND THE A's SHOULD GIVE THEIR 89 Championship to the GIANTS! Yep, that is only fair. Make it happen Bud.

In turn, those teams will then have to give their championships to the teams they beat in the NLCS or ALCS, since they undoubtedly had juicing players as well. And so on and so forth, leading to Craig Counsell, the only obviously clean player in baseball (though he did hit a homer the other day ), holding every World Series title from the Steroid Era.

                            Make it happen Bud.

I never said they don't help. I just don't like how people act like they are end all and be all of how good a player is. It still takes a lot of other skill and talent to be a great baseball player.

Most of those of the guys on that list also were immensely talented steriods or not.
