The baseball record book is now a joke

Little bitty ballparks. Juiced baseballs. Microscopic strike zones. Watered down pitching staffs. Steroids. Corked bats. Body armor.

What happened to the hallowed home run? Remember just 15 years ago when 50 home runs was headline material. Now it's passe.

A few years ago, we had the ultra-steroided-out Mark McGwire battling the ultra-steroided-out Sammy Sosa for the longtime single-season HR record of a skinny little guy named Roger Maris.

I remember Sosa when he first hit the big leagues with Texas. He was a skinny dude known more for his speed than his brawn. He now barely resembles that kid with his Conan the Barbarian forehead and jaw, and his hulkish frame.

I remember when Barry Bonds was a sleakly-built hitter known for his ability to hit for a high average, not as much for power.

McGwire was always a power hitter, granted, but he got bigger and bigger as his career moved along.

The league has been full of cheating power hitters for almost 20 years now. Just look at today's game scores.

Next time you get a chance, catch an ESPN classic replay of an early-80s game. The guys look like they're in junior high compared to these guys.

Baseball has become illegitimate in so many ways.

You can add the NBA to this list with it's "Star system"

It was not that long ago that 25 HRs was an accomplishment.

Now Bellhorn hits 27 or so last year and he is a "light bat" who needs to be replaced...

And looking at this it won't be handled any differently than in the past. Homeruns flying out of the park bring in the customers.

Raise the danged mound. Eliminate the armor they where and do some serious drug testing.

First, they'd have to rip down the strongest union in the history of unions. And the owners aren't "together" enough to get that done. We're talking about a 2-year stoppage in play to get it done.

I hate unions. And good they've done happened over 50 years ago.
