      Ruth: .356/.494/.745, 212 OPS+, 175 RC per 162 games
      Pujols: .334/.427/.629, 172 OPS+, 158 RC per 162 games

I love Pujols as much as the next guy but Babe Ruth in the 20s is possibly the greatest stretch of dominance in the history of professional sports. Next time you call someone out for not knowing what they're talking about, make sure you know it yourself.
The funny thing is, do you know why Ruth was sick? I've read he had himself injected with pig testosterone and it made him very ill. In fact, the Yankees had told him to get in shape because he was drinking/eating himself into oblivion. He got a personal trainer in NY, started working out, and supposedly taking testosterone. Interesting that his 1927 season shortly followed.

        Not even close.

Ricky Henderson. Controlled games by himself. Hit for average and for power. If he singled, you might as well put him on third base.

Plus, he was a terrific outfielder.

If I'm starting an All-Time ballclub....he definitely gets serious consideration for #1 pick.
It's either him..***th,Mays or Cobb(I know he's an unpopular choice...but his leadoff skills are absolutely sick)

There are like twelve people with the nickname "The Franchise". Could you please elaborate?

I'm (somewhat) surprised that no one mentioned Pete Rose. No matter what you think of him and his gambling, and maybe a lot of people here are too young to remember him...but Pete Rose was not only a great ballplayer, but played the game the right way...every day.

I don't think there's any doubt that today it has to be Pujols. In the same vein as Rose, he plays the game the right way and he plays every day. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, if Pujols avoids major injury, he will be one of the best, if not THE BEST, to ever play the game.

Keep in mind the age range of people here. Pete Rose retired before many posters here were even born, and even for those in their late 20's, he was near the end of his career when they were little kids.

                          For me it's Griffey.

Surprised anyone would think he deserved mention. His totals are due to the fact his Nazi owner worshipped him & let him play way beyond his time to go. He had no power the last 15 years of his career, going homerless 4 times, hitting double digits only once. hitting is his one skill & he's tied for 171st all time in batting average.

I don't think there was ever a time Pete rose was the best player on his team, let alone the greatest of his generation.
