I just wish IP had 480p support to clean up the textures/jaggies and that the "behind the pitcher" cam looked 1/2 as good as WSB.

For the second time.... THE GAME DOES SUPPORT 480P. What you are looking at is 480P. You can complain that it doesnt look great... BUT STOP SAYING IT'S NOT 480P

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

I think you may be confusing the fact that you can get your xbox to output a digital signal (via the dasboard/cable) with true 480p support, which requires double texture resolution in the game's graphics engine.

Sure it looks worse when you dumb down the signal via the dashboard to 480i, but that is not the point.

Anyway, I am not the only one saying that IP does not support 480p, check the reviews and other posts on this board. It is not even checked on the game box (which granted doesn't mean all that much).

But there is a general consensus that graphics engine in IP does not have the resolution to truly support 480p.

    Line-doubling doesn't count

I have been wrong before. But if I am wrong this time I will blame the OS review:

Overall IP is an average looking XBOX baseball title. It could use some work and definitely needs 480p support next year for the HDTV gamers out there, but it’s not really ugly by any means either. If everything looked as detailed and accurate as the ballparks Microsoft would have, without a doubt, the best-looking baseball game on the market. The parks really are THAT good. Hopefully MS realizes this and is working diligently to bring the rest of the stuff up to that same level of detail. I’m really looking forward to IP 2004 to see if they pull it off because if they do, look out!

      Ummm, I plead the 5th!

Let me see if I can get with MS and get an official answer on this matter.

I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Hopefully I can get back with more

            Here is what I think:

To be true 480p, per HDTV standard, graphics/textures must have sufficient resolution to support scaling from 4:3 to 16:9

So the *ability* to support 16:9 is a requirement to claim 480p. Remember, that 480p box is not checked on the IP gamebox. And IP is the only one that does not support 16:9...

The xbox can generate a 480p signal to your HDTV even when the game does not meet this requirement.

But that is basically line-doubling and does not look as good as true 480p, because source graphics are of lower resolution.

This makes sense when you see how much cleaner (less jaggies, less texture shimmering) the graphics are in HH, WSB 2K3 than IP. Because HH, WSB 2K3 graphics have sufficient resolution to support 16:9.

I could certainly be wrong though, I am no HDTV expert. But I do know that HDTV buffs claim that 16:9 must doable to claim true 480p. Even if 16:9 is not an in-game option.

Let us know what Microsoft says!

Oh, I didn't know any of that. All I knew was that when I turned it on it looked better.
