What was Bud supposed to do? Pitch?
That game being called a tie was a direct reflection of the players' attitudes towards the thing.
It used to not need to have "something" on the line to be important. Guys used to fight it out 'tooth-and-nail' to win the thing for 'braggin' rights'.
Unfortunately, players nowadays are happy to get that bonus, show up for a couple innings and be at dinner before the game is even over.
This, is why the game was called a tie.
Don't blame Bud.
