Yeah...just because it's a fastball doesn't mean it can't move at all...Tillman's fast ball is almost dead straight, which spells trouble if he can't locate.

I wonder if he's ever seen Mariano Rivera pitch, because his cut fastball has more movement than some people's sliders.

Haven't thrown many 4-seam fastballs have you? They have very little movement, that was the point. It's like saying someone needs to learn to throw a fastball because their knuckleball is too slow.

When did a cutter become a 4-seam fastball?

4-seam fastballs aren't meant to have alot of movement?

But when you have little movement, you're more likely to get into trouble than if it had a few inches of movment.

If he develops a two seamer, he'd possibly A) be able to locate it better and B) miss more bats or give up less mistake pitches because they tend to have more movement than 4 seamers do.

I'm amazed that people think all fastballs are dead straight and don't move an inch.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here. Nobody said that all fastballs are dead straight. Four-seamers pretty much are, and so if he wants a pitch with more movement, he should develop a two-seamer as you say.

I'd rather have the next door neighbor's six year old kid as a GM than Bill Bavasi. He'd probably trade for all the coolest sounding names but at least he would sign Carlos Silva to an obscene amount of money and sell off the minor league system for one injury prone pitcher.

So you're saying that a non-4-seam fastball is going to have more movement than a 4-seam fastball? I'm stunned.

And by 'people' I'm assuming you're talking about everyone who doesn't post here, because I don't see anyone who thinks that.

I think you meant to say "at least he wouldn't sign".

that's what bavasi was doing when he made this trade. pisses me off. It's ok tho. Vidro, Sexson, Ibanez, Beltre was for SURE gonna win the division they just needed a 5th starter, because the guy they took ahead of Tim Lincecum was too valuable being a situational righty in the 7th.

Btw, I don't know who thinks that Jones was a better right fielder than Brad Wilkerson. Varitek and Lowe for Slocumb....nah. We gave up a hall of famer AND PROSPECTS and a closer, for 27 games over two years.

I'm just glad he traded Rafael Soriano for Horacio Ramirez.

They did exploratory surgery on Bedard today and found a torn labrum. Once again, he's made of porcelain.

On a happier note, Beltre's nuts are only contused and no surgery is required.

I'm sure Beltre is relieved. Probably not standing a whole lot, but relieved.
