    Re: HH: Pitching

I guess that's what makes HH so realistic. You aren't going to throw a strike everytime you want to in real life - so you won't in HH either.

Pitching's very difficult. To want to throw a ball on the outside corner and then actually doing it are two totally different things. That's what makes HH so much fun IMO. Typically I K about 8-9 guys and walk 1-2 with strikeout type pitchers. Just remember, in HH, where and what you throw dramatically affect this (fastball in on the hands should be followed with something soft away, but not all the time or the CPU will catch onto this).

I haven't seen any other baseball games that reflect this so well. Every other game I play, I'm able to paint the corners with ease. Doesn't accurately reflect pitching IMO.

BULLPEN: It takes 10 pitches to have a bullpen guy warmed up. A mound visit equals 3 pitches. This is from last year's manual so I assume the same applies. This is how I gauge my guys.

Ok, so lets assume I am using Matt Morris. He's not a Strike Out pitcher but he averages about 5-6k's a game. So you suggest pitching in on the hands and then going away???

This is why High Heat is so difficult and the most realistic in terms of batter pitcher matchups. You can't paint the corner every time like in WSB2k3 and ASB. However, the overal feel of High Heat 2004 is very annoying. I can't stand the pitcher view because you have a horrible pitching animations along with the fact that the ball doesn't go into the catcher's glove. It's very ugly.

Vanilla: It varies so I can't really give you a definitive answer. Each pitcher's strengths are different and I haven't used Matt Morris so I'm really not sure. I use the Pirates and here's what I do.

Kris Benson: He averages 8 or so per game. Usually start hitters off with a curve or slider in the dirt. Follow that with a fastball inside or changeup outside. 0-2 I always throw a fastball high out of the zone or away out of the zone. Changeups low and in the dirt are good too. I'll often run the count to 2-0 before I give the hitter something good to look at. I want the hitter to chase a ball (depending on the situation).

Of course, 90% of what I throw depends ulitmately on the game situation (score, runners on etc...)

The part I find the most frustrating is that in one inning the outside changeup is thrown for a strike. The next inning...I throw the outside changeup and it's a ball now. Then I try an outside fastball and now I'm down 2-0 on Scrubby McMillan. I hate that stuff. Oh well.
