    Re: Bagwell

i'd say he is HOF material. in his prime he put up great numbers year after year. he went to many all-star games so that has to say something. he always had a great glove. right now its probably his shoulder that is holding him back but still you put up great numbers last year and he has decent stats this year.
    Teams:

    NFL - Packers & Browns
    MLB - Brewers & Twins
NCAA Football - Wisconsin, LSU, Virginia Tech
    Soccer - Arsenal, Wolverhampton
    NHL - Wild

      Re: Bagwell

let's not forget that he has some speed too...averaged 16 steals per year before this year and a career high of 31 in '97.

Bill James came up with 4 "HOF likelyness" stats (or so i call them)
Here are bagwell's numbers so far:
      Black Ink: Batting - 24 (Average HOFer ~ 27)
      Gray Ink: Batting - 146 (Average HOFer ~ 144)
      HOF Standards: Batting - 51.0 (Average HOFer ~ 50)
      HOF Monitor: Batting - 136.0 (Likely HOFer > 100)

for those of you who are comparing to palmeiro:
      Black Ink: Batting - 8 (Average HOFer ~ 27)
      Gray Ink: Batting - 171 (Average HOFer ~ 144)
      HOF Standards: Batting - 51.1 (Average HOFer ~ 50)
      HOF Monitor: Batting - 139.0 (Likely HOFer > 100)

each test considers different factors. one compares just straight stats, one also compares with "top 10 finishes" etc. as we can see here, palmeiro is definitely grey-area b/c he's average or above average on 3 of the tests, but *way* below average on the black-ink test. meanwhile, bagwell would be an "average" HOFer.

i love the guy...always have. too bad he's never won it all, but i think he's definitely a candidate for HOF. maybe not first ballot, but definitely should get in.
