Re: What kind of nonsense is this....
Kind of silly for a team no where near contention.
If I'm a MIL fan it's sorta a slap in the face IMO...Why can't they show the same enthusiasm as they did in that one game over the entire post-ASB... while they were going 21-31 and as of today stand 17 games back from the division when they were 2.5 games back on 7/14 and only 4.5 out of the Wildcard (14 today).Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: What kind of nonsense is this....
I think it's stupid. This kind of thing is never tolerated in baseball, the veterans always sort it out. Showing up pitchers/hitters when you're a young player is never a good idea. This isn't half as bad as that idiot in NY throwing at guys heads and fist pumping at people after he K's them, but if it becomes a trend then I think we'll start seeing a lot of chin music.Comment

Re: What kind of nonsense is this....
Whether you think it's immature, stupid, absurd, it really doesn't matter. The players don't care what you guys think and honestly, do you think they should?
And the same works in the reverse. If you think it's amazing, great, creative, the players don't care either.
No matter what the opinion is on this subject, it's going to happen at the end of games unless the Selig and his team step in; and they won't. There's no reason to step in because it really hurts no one. It's a team celebration and as long as the celebration doesn't hurt the other team or the fans, then the league has no reason to get involved.
Like it or not, be ready to see more of it because these guys are family. Families do a lot of crazy things to entertain each other and feel close knit. Families will find new ways to keep the fun up. In my opinion, if your team is doing it, you should feel happy to know that the clubhouse must like each other.
As a Yankees fan, I'm relieved, absolutely relieved and pleased, to see guys getting pied in the face, rounding each up to catch a flying helmet in the air, all that. The Yankees had become one of the most uptight groups in baseball and it was frustrating to not see any emotion. These guys are having fun now and it makes the game more enjoyable as a fan when I see the team I root for having fun on the field."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: What kind of nonsense is this....
People need to stop taking this so seriously. Everyone of us go to work, try our best & if there's a chance to actually have a little fun, we do it. This is no different.Originally posted by VP Richard M. NixonI always remember that whatever I have done in the past, or may do in the future, Duke University is responsible one way or the other.

Re: What kind of nonsense is this....
That's silly. Prove lack of enthusiasm was the reason they were losing. As if all the teams in first place are in there because of enthusiasm. If what you said was true, stop criticising the celebration. Let them do something like that every game. Then they'll be 162-0.
While being in contention during the 2nd half they've lost series' to Pitt, ATL, split WAS, lost to SD...and that was just to end July.
Then they lose to Houston, SD again, get swept by the friggin Pirates, and then get swept by the Reds....and that is just to the end of August.
Then...as if it can't get any worse...they're on the cusp of getting swept at home by the Giants, and then there is this walk-off...seemingly rehearsed celebration by the Brewers.
A team that pre-ASB was very much in contention for a wildcard or possibly the division lead. However by the end of July and definitely the end of August they were already out of it?
So you tell me what's the reason, if you're a much more talented team, for getting swept by teams like Pitt, splitting a series between the Nats, getting swept by the Reds, and losing two series to the Padres?
All of this occurring in the 2nd half of the season, and the dog-days of summer, where the season starts to come to a grind, and the men are seperated from the boys.
I guess enthusiasm wasn't articulated well, but that's generally how I look at it...when a team...during again...the DOG DAYS OF SUMMER...can't get the job done versus a lesser-opponent it tells me they're not mature enough to handle their success. They don't show the same enthusiasm against a lesser team. Is there anyway to measure this? In one game. No. But after losing 8 series' to lesser teams I think it pretty much speaks for itself.
What should we call it then Mr. Expert?
All that Hoffman, Counsel, and other veterans celebrating tells me is..."There ain't nothing better to do, can't beat'em join'em."
I remember when Chad Johnson said he wasn't going to celebrate a TD until Cincy won a game again. Now...I don't remember if he ever stuck to that statement or not, but I respect the idea.
It's stupid to do these things when you've let your fan base down by losing series' to the Pirates, Reds, and Padres of the world.Last edited by JBH3; 09-14-2009, 09:35 AM.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: What kind of nonsense is this....
Just because their season is over doesn't mean they can't try to have fun.
Why do the fans keep coming to the games then? Aren't the Brewers already out of contention?"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: What kind of nonsense is this....
I liked the celebration - acually happened to catch it live on TV and thought it was awesome. Didn't get it at first until the announcer made the "Team is bowing to their Prince" line.
However, I love when the "purist" fans of any sport have such a strong, negative, reaction to players celebrating in creative, borderline over-the-top ways. It's even more entertaining.Comment

Whether the Brew Crew are in the division/Wild Card race or not, they're just enjoying themselves. Not really a big deal. & you can celebrate with a walk-off, as long as you ain't taking it too far.Originally posted by Barney StinsonNever in the history of New York City nightclubs has there been a shortage of dudes. Well there's obviously no way to prove that, but the point I'm trying to make is...

That was to steel curtain, who claimed the vets on the team would "clean that up." Obviously, they can't "clean it up" if they are right there participating. Your comment was just a useless, baseless, uninformed opinion that didn't contribute @ all.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: What kind of nonsense is this....
Please.
Lack of enthusiasm, focus, leadership...whatever the adjective is to describe their losing other than a slump that has lasted ALL of 2 months and counting is what I'm trying to get at.
Somewhere they decided to focus on a rehearsed walk-off HR celebration while consistently losing games.
So focus, enthusiasm...whatever you want to call it. The objective is to win, and not celebrate pointless triumphs like these.
I never have stated I have an issue w/ WHAT OCCURRED during the celebration.
It's the rehearsed nature, and that it comes at a time when the team has played their way out of contention.
If they were winning, and still in contention (if it was my team) I'd love to see this kind of celebration.
It's the timing of it that, to me, is utterly redonkulous.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

You don't have a problem w/what occured, but you have a problem w/them rehearsing it. Exactly how would it occur if they didn't plan it? Telepathy? A quick text message?
