Re: Cleveland Indians Managerial Opening Discussion
Hm, my bad then I thought the situation with Elijah Dukes was indicative of his overall philosophy. Either way, I agree that if he's a players manager type he'll have the same kind of problems Wedge had if not worse.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Cleveland Indians Managerial Opening Discussion
After seeing how the Nats improved after he got canned, why would someone hire Acta?-August 17, 1960Originally posted by VP Richard M. NixonI always remember that whatever I have done in the past, or may do in the future, Duke University is responsible one way or the other.
Thanks, dookies!Comment

Confirmed:
I can see it now: CLE 9 wins, 153 losses.
Great job, Dolan and co.

Re: Cleveland Indians Managerial Opening Discussion
Acta wasn't the sole reason for the Nationals' failures last year (or 2 years ago). There was no pitching and in 2008 no offense.
But he has a lot of issues. He plays favorites. For example, coming into 2009, he said that the OF spots were all up for competition. Well, until the 2nd day of spring training, when he announced Milledge would bat leadoff (where he had never hit and we had a .320 hitter already) and play CF. Well, he was terrible in spring training and didn't work hard because he knew he had a job. I firmly believe Acta's mishandling of Milledge and putting him in a position to fail is the reason he struggled and why his development took a step backwards.
Also, Acta can't manage a bullpen and just seems clueless sometimes. He always talks about guys improving or playing hard and developing but this is the major leagues.
Acta would make a great minor league manager. In fact, I would love to hire him to coach in the Nats' system. But as a major league manager, I don't see a lot of good qualities in him.
But good luck to him in Cleveland. He's a really nice guy.Comment

You have to be kidding me.
There's no way in hell we went from Wedge to Acta. Is Shapiro pulling a Major League and trying to get the franchise relocated?Twitter
