I think when you are looking at players stats the most important stat for hitters could be OPS.

OK. I know what OPS is, it's "On Base plus Slugging Percentage" or something like that... but what does it HONESTLY tell you? I've been watching baseball since I can remember, and I NEVER heard it mentioned unitl this past 2-3 years... it, in all honesty, seems like some funked up stat that the players union concocted to give the players some other means to get more money..

What does having a good OPS tell you about a hitter? I seriously wanna know, I have no clue... Like for instance slugging percentage tells you if the guy is a singles hitter or gets a nice amount of extra-base hits.

ops has been around for awhile...

      http://www.baseball-reference.com/le...S_career.shtml

it's mostly to determine how good a play can get on base and hite for power...

Yeah so a guy who has a .500 obp, hits only singles making for a .300 slugging %, yet steals 200 bases and has 200 runs in a year only has a .800 ops? Then there's the guy with a .300 obp, but hits 50 home runs a year and 120 rbis so his slugging % is .600 making for a .900 ops. I don't think ops is completely accurate in judging all players.

heck ya man. put both Sexson and Jenkins in the all-star game. and give my boy Podsednik the ROY while they're at it. screw Willis Scotty plays for the Brewers. we haven't won anything in like 10 years. Sunday hopefully i'll be able to meet Podsednik and Sexson. i'm going to the Brewers-Twins game. should be fun. to me Jenkins is more deserving of starting in LF than Bonds is. i know everyone will vote though for Bonds to start. look what Jenkins has helped with. we are only 9 games out now. i think we have a pretty good chance at .500 this year. not playoffs but .500.

Go Jenkins and Sexson and Podsednik and Sheets.
