Re: ALDS: Red Sox vs Angels
Worst accusation of the trade deadline (or in this case, waiver deadline).. getting Billy Wagner. That dude has failed in EVERY big spot he's been in, and he teases you that he's so good during the regular season that you think you can put him in big spots, but he chokes them away.
Brad Penny, John Smoltz, Billy Wagner. Not signing Teix.
When is Boy Wonder gonna get some criticism?
As for Tex, can't do much if the guy simply doesn't want to sign with your team. The money was there, the push was there, but he wasn't interested. As I recall, he was okay with Theo, but didn't like the ownership. In either case he liked the Yankees more and has made a huge difference for them.
I have no trouble with the moves. They simply got stifled by a better playing team over games 1 and 2. They gave away game 3. Can't really put that on management IMO.Comment

Re: ALDS: Red Sox vs Angels
The Red Sox already have his replacement and now they'll be able to acquire future talent for a closer.
I know most people don't agree with me, but with the exception of maybe three guys in baseball (and that's possibly even a stretch), the closer role is the most overrated position in baseball.
Throwing big dollars at these guys is comical."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Thing is, someone will want him in a trade.
