Why does the MLB schedule the west coast games for the afternoon?

I think its better to play the east coast game first, then the west coast. That will help everyone get to bed earlier.Originally posted by VP Richard M. NixonI always remember that whatever I have done in the past, or may do in the future, Duke University is responsible one way or the other.

Re: Why does the MLB schedule the west coast games for the afternoon?
If the west coast games start at 7 pm est, it's still going to end pretty late in the east.
Instead, you're just starting the east coast game at 12 noon pacific time and less people in the west can watch those games.
Also, prime time is obviously a bigger money maker for networks."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Why does the MLB schedule the west coast games for the afternoon?
Start the east game @ 4pm, people in the EST can take off work early & watch the game. Then the same for those that live in the PST. I would think doing it that way would increase viewership.Originally posted by VP Richard M. This really can't be changed."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And for the west coast people?? And they still do the same thing on the weekend.Originally posted by VP Richard M. NixonI always remember that whatever I have done in the past, or may do in the future, Duke University is responsible one way or the other.

Re: Why does the MLB schedule the west coast games for the afternoon?
I was just answering for the east coast fans.
A lot of the World Series games will start at 8 pm to solve this problem or try to come close. It's a tough balance but MLB and the networks will prefer that a game starts 8 pm EST/5 pm PST (or whatever it is) than anything earlier.
The west coast people might miss the first three innings, but more people will miss it if the game starts earlier than that.
I can't answer the weekend thing. I think weekend games should be afternoon starts all-around. 4 pm EST. I'm all for it. Even in the World Series."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. 8pm ET is fine. Games would over by 11:30pm ET generally. What parent isn't going to allow their kid to stay up an hour or two late for a few days to watch championship baseball?Comment

Re: Why does the MLB schedule the west coast games for the afternoon?
Isn't the real problem that the games take way too long? Don't let the batter step out of the box. Make pitchers throw within 15 seconds of receiving the ball. Don't let the catcher/infield endlessly confer on the mound with the pitcher between each pitch (if they do, it should count as a mound visit). Quit letting unremarkable 9-inning games take 4 hours to play.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
