Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
This might be the year Bonds and Clemens finally make it. There are a LOT of voters voting for them for the first time.Boston Red Sox

It would truly be a gift from the baseball gods if Barry goes in the same year as Bud.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
I still think they are a couple years away. Each of them has 72% as of this morning with 87 ballots already been turned in. So they need to keep up this pace pretty much through the rest of the 400+ ballots to filled out and released. Also I heard someone say on MLBN that the majority of the voters who have turned tend to be the younger/sabermetrician voters. And they tend to not let steroids cloud their judgement.Comment

Bonds and Clemens won't make it this year (and in my world they'd never make it but oh well) but they will make it either in 2018 or '19.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

They'll get really close this year thanks to Selig getting in.
I say they get 74%Boston Red Sox

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
I think they will be lucky to get higher than 60% of the votes. Last year Bonds and Clemens were on 44 and 45% of the ballots respectively. I can't see them jumping any higher than 15% of the ballots this year.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
He was already on the once and didn't even get the 10% needed to stay on the ballot. So he would have to be inducted by that Veteran's committee or whatever.
And I don't think guys like Sosa, McGwire, Sheffield, Palmeiro should get in. They were too one dimensional and they didn't pass the eye test, IMO. That's how I would be judging guys if I had a ballot, eye test. Did it look he could put up great numbers even if he didn't use steroids. And for Bonds, Clemens, Manny, A-Rod (when he gets on the ballot) those guys are all yes's for me. I don't think that guys like Sosa, McGwire, Sheffield, Palmeiro would have been as good if they weren't on steroids.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
I get the eye test part and agree with you somewhat. I guess because I live in Texas I seen a lot of Rafael and he was very good player, I did think he was underrated even back then. Over 3000 hits and 570 HR's or something close to that. McGwire still holds the rookie record with 49 HR's.......that was back when he looked like Olive Oyl instead of Popeye. It's a shame that the steroid era has tarnished the sport and people's view of it.Comment

I watched Palmeiro his entire career, going back to his time with the Cubs, and at no time did he ever strike you as a HOF caliber player (1 top 5 MVP finish and only 3 top 10's in 20 seasons). If he had reached his numbers without ever being implicated in steroids he would most likely be in...instead, voters will have a hard time giving him credit for reaching those numbers without viewing them as being steroid aided. To compound his troubles, his finger wagging at Congress only to pop positive a few months later and disappear from the game really tarnished his legacy. In short, I don't see him ever sniffing the HOF without a ticket."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do.
