Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Curious to what you guys think on Scott Rolen when his career is over if he will be inducted in the HOF. Only 2 other 3rd basemen have ever won more gold gloves than Rolen, Brooks Robinson and Mike Schmidt. Do you think he will be get in at some point? I doubt he will be a first Ballot HOF but just curious what you all think.

Both are very rare players, yet few probably think so because few got to see them play since they played in low level markets for baseball. Especially Walker to be honest. He became injury prone or would've probably had bigger numbers.
This goes with Belle. Belle, Walker and Helton really should all be HOFers. But they aren't because they didn't hit 600 homeruns like Sosa did or 3,000 hits. They had injuries that shortened their productivity in their careers and were beasts for still a long time in the league.

          Larry Walker:
          2,160 H, 471 2B, 62 3B, 383 HR, 230 SB, .313/.400/.565/.965 5 All-Star Appearances, 7 Gold Gloves, 3 Silver Sluggers, 3 Batting Titles, 1 MVP

          I'd give him my vote.

          Todd Helton:
          2,241 H, 527 2B, 35 3B, 334 HR, 36 SB, .324/.423/.555/.978 5 All-Star Appearances, 3 Gold Gloves, 4 Silver Sluggers, 1 Batting Titles

          Probably no on Helton.

          Scott Rolen:
          1,953 H, 483 2B, 39 3B, 305 HR, 115 SB, .283/.369/.498/.866 6 All-Star Appearances, 8 Gold Gloves, 1 Silver Slugger, 1 Rookie of the Year

          Right now no on Rolen.

Posting his counting/rate stats without context leads me to believe that you're totally ignoring position.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

The key for Rolen is that for some reason there is a real lack at the 3B position in the HOF...far fewer 3B than any other position. If Brooks Robinson is in, Rolen is in.

Perhaps I am, there aren't too many 3B that have been good/great at the position for many years and Rolen has been rock solid at the position for a long time. His career isn't over, but it's not like Chipper Jones where you can say he's definitely in.

Wouldn't that indicate he should be in?

Thanks guys. Yeah, it's easy to try to look up someone stats, but I wish it were a bit easier to compare players. Maybe I should've gone over to fangraphs instead since they have that feature.

I know Rolen has been great, but I wasn't sure how he stacked up to other 3B and HOF'ers. He certainly gets my vote.

I applaud you for changing your mind after seeing other points of view and reasoning. Some people on this site you can throw stats at legit points to and they are so hard headed that no matter what they will argue as long as the thread is open, lol.

I used to be like that, but there are topics I go into with some knowledge and if other members enlighten me on said topic, I will change my mind because of the evidence they provided. I learned my lesson after the Khalil Greene/Jimmy Rollisn disaster a few years ago.

3B is criminally underrepresented in the Hall, for whatever reason.

Here's a FG's article on Rolen and his future HoF case.

Yes, and it isn't too difficult to see why once ballpark, position, and defense have been taken into account.
