Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
He already has 11 gold gloves at SS and will have 3,000 hits when he retires. If shortstop wouldn't have turned into such on offensive position in the late 90s Omar would be a stone cold lock.
Ozzie Smith got in on the first ballot. Just sayin'...Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Ozzie Smith is a bit of a different case as the NL and MLB for the most part didn't have such explosive hitting SSs and he was considered the best fielding SS of all time even during his playing days. It also helps that he played in a couple WS and has a signature NLCS moment to boot in his career. Omar doesn't quite have that even though he played in a WS. I'm just being a bit cynical about it but I do think he's a HOFer.
3rd or 4th ballot IMO.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Thome should get in, but I don't think it'll be right away.
Here's something to think about: Cliff Lee
I don't think he'll get in, but if he does what he is doing now for 5+ years, do you think he would?Eagles | Phillies | Sixers | Flyers

Tough call, it took so long into his career before he really took off. I wanna say no, but under your provision of maintaining a high level for 5+ years, well... we'll see I guess.Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
I say Jeter and Rivera are locks. I think Jorge has a good shot. I have a hard time buying Pettite though. He was good for a long time, but I never saw him as being dominant except for maybe two seasons. He got a lot of wins playing on a lot of really dominant offensive teams.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
With career numbers of .277/.403/.556 to go along with 600+ homers he is an absolute lock. Having a career OPS+ of 147 (better than A-Rod) certainly helps as well. I also believe that if the Indians didn't suck in 2002 that he should have been the AL MVP that year. It's still laughable that he finished in 7th. Disgusting.
The only way he doesn't get in is if he ends up failing a drug test at some point which is highly unlikely.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
I don't think Rolen would get in because he rarely played a fully healthy season. Of Rolen's 16 seasons, he has only played 130 games in eight of them. I could definitely see Helton getting after a couple of years. These are his major stats
1,329 Runs Scored
2,363 Hits
554 Doubles
347 Home Runs
1,308 RBI's
1,256 Walks
.323 Career Batting Average

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Helton's numbers aren't nearly as impressive once ballpark is taken into account. There isn't much separating him from guys like Berkman, Olerud, Delgado, Clark, and McGriff. Excellent players all, but would you put all of them in?
Despite injuries taking a big bite out of his career, Rolen only has 600 fewer plate appearances than Helton does.Last edited by snepp; 02-14-2012, 11:51 PM.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Thome should be an absolute lock. Vizquel should also get in in my opinion. One of the best fielding shortstops of all time.Browns
