    Re: J.J HARDY TRADED

It further reminds you of what a horrible trade the Johan deal was. Gomez was the best player in the deal, and he's mediocrity at best. And you gave up what was the best pitcher in baseball at the time, entering his prime years.

I would think Milwaukee could get more for JJ Hardy than this. It doesn't even seem like they shopped him around much. I get that you want to put Alcides Escobar in there, not questioning that, I'm just questioning why you basically dump a guy who just two seasons ago, showed awesome power from the SS position. You could probably net something a little better than a Carlos Gomez.

The fact that Hardy was traded two days after the World Series ended tells you that the Brewers did not shop him around.

Minnesota backed themselves in to a corner with the Santana trade. By not trading him at the trade deadline in 2007 everyone knew the Twins had to trade him that offseason. Everyone knew the Twins did not want to open the 2008 season with Santana still on the roster and did not even want to go to training camp with him around. Because of that the Twins did not get they best package they could get for Santana, they got the best package that anyone was still willing to offer.

The Blue Jays may face a similar situation with Roy Halladay if they decide that they can't re-sign him (or he doesn't want to) and want to move before the season starts. The same offers the Jays were getting last july are not going to be the same offers they will get when every team knows they have to trade him.

        Re: J.J HARDY TRADED

The Brewers did shop around Hardy. They were looking for front line pitching and nothing ever materialized. So, they did the next best thing. They traded a disgruntled former starting SS and picked up a young disgruntled CF.

The Brewers won't be signing Weathers or Cameron and traded Hardy's salary. Now, they can go out and grab some starting pitching which they desperately need.

They were never going to get a frontline starter for J.J. Hardy. Prince Fielder or Ryan Braun maybe, but not Hardy.

I should have made it more clearer. A 4 or 5 SP wouldn't have been out of the picture, but everyone knew Hardy had a bad year and the Brewers had Escobar waiting in the wings.
