Re: When will Tim McCarver learn
Last year the Giants had McCarver do about 20 games or so on there bay area telecasts. There were several times when McCarver and Mike Krukow had some pretty heated disagreements on the air. The problem was, Krukow has a great baseball mind and he was blown away by McCarver's stupidity and lack of knowledge. It really came across on the air, longtime Giants fans who've been listening to Kruk of years could sense his frustration, it was actually quite comical.
Needless to say, the Giants got McCarver the hell outa there.Comment

Re: When will Tim McCarver learn
I think he does a good job at being a Colour Commentator. But he's definately not my favorite. I think David Justice does a better job of analyzing stuff. But McCarver does a better job at keeping me interested, just by the stuff he says.Comment

totally agree. When they made the bogus call on that ground rule double that the fan touched, McCarver could not stop talking about just because Furcal was fast meant that he automatically should score. But if it's a slow guy, then hold him up at 3rd. He had them freaking slow the replay down to show where Furcal was when the fan grabbed the ball and went into detail trying to explain this crap. Wow, what a great commentator.

I didn't see the play, but this might be the first instance where Tim McCarver got a ruling right. It's not a ground-rule double if someone reaches out of the stands... the umpires can put the runners wherever they believe they would have ended up without the interference.
Sounds like McCarver nailed that play as an analyst. Unfortunately, he has spread years of misinformation about rules. This hardly makes up for it.Comment

Re: When will Tim McCarver learn
My favorite McCarver "hi-lite" was during a game (I think it was an All-Star Game, but could have been a game of the week) in the early-mid 90's when Gary Sheffield was batting. McCarver notes the way Gary jerks his bat back and forth when the pitcher is in his wind-up and starts saying how you would NEVER teach a young player to hit like this. The very next pitch, Sheffield goes yard! McCarver - silence... It was awesome.XBL: TancComment

Re: When will Tim McCarver learn
I just want to see a game called by Tim McCarver and Joe Morgan... and then stand back as the collision of the two egos causes the press box to explode...
Those two guys are convinced they're the best ever to play, the best ever to announce, the most knowledgable...blah, blah, blah.
Listening to either of them is exhausting.Shawn Drotar
