Nobody knows for sure, thats why the games are played. The Yankees are going to be favored I'm sure, but that doesn't mean anything really (after all, the Saints won the Superbowl and I doubt many favored them to win it all before the season started). Any team can be beaten in a 7 game series, even the Yankees. Look at last year, everyone who doesn't watch baseball looks at the Yankee vs Twins series in the playoffs as a blow out and nobody gave the Twins a chance before the series started. However, realistically the Yankees could have easily lost that series (the Twins blew the lead in the 9th inning 2 or 3 times in that series - not to mention the terrible umpiring). Point being, on paper a team may look unstoppable but the games aren't played 'on paper' so a lot of things can happen that dictate the outcome of the games.

Re: Who will win the world series?
They didn't do anything to improve. Their SP is horrendous. Their bullpen is unproven outside of Sherrill and Broxton. Their offense should be okay. But, they let Belliard, Hudson, and Pierre go. That's three key role players who had big years last year.
The Rockies are an improving, young ballclub that almost upended the Dodgers last year and have improved with Francis coming back. The Giants will certainly be in the race with that pitching staff and a full season of Sandoval and Freddy Sanchez. And the Diamondbacks are adding Brandon Webb and Edwin Jackson to a rotation headlined by Dan Haren supported by a lineup with Justin Upton and Mark Reynolds.
I'm not saying it's definitely going to happen, but it's certainly not out of the question that LA finishes 4th in the toughest division in baseball this year.Comment

Rockies- we'll find out this year if last year was a lucky year
Giants- did not improve their offense
I see the Dodgers either winning the NL west or wildcard but not 4th. If anyone either than the Dodgers win the NL west its going to be the Giants. I definitely see the D-Backs as the sleeper team in the West.Mets/Giants/Knicks/Rangers/Manchester United/Notre Dame Football

The X-Factor in that whole division is Brandon Webb. If he is healthy the Diamondbacks are a contender. Webb, Haren, Jackson are as good a 1-2-3 combination as any in the NL.Comment

Re: Who will win the world series?
Aubrey Huff and Mark DeRosa are definite upgrades over Travis Ishikawa and Randy Winn so in that respect the Giants did upgrade their offense.

Weird how one year, the NL West is the best division in baseball. The next year, it's the worst. And it always seems to be fluctuating.Comment
