I don't know the specifics of why it happened, because I was literally like 2 years old at the time, but it would've been nice if Milwaukee had Gary Sheffield throughout the 90's and into the 00's.

Sheffield was never happy in Milwaukee-and made sure he let everyone know it. Sheffield's mouth with the media is basically what ran him out of Milwaukee. Interestingly, before being traded to the Padres a few days earlier the Brewers had a proposed deal to send Sheffield to the Red Sox-which he also didn't like.

Even though Jose Valentin was decent (offensively), Ricky Bones was kind of a bust (lots of injuries), and Matt Mieske was basically nothing more than a 4th Outfielder all three were highly touted prospects for the Padres entering 1992. Even if the Brewers never make the trade in '92 within a year or two Sheffield would have been dealt or eventually leave as a free agent, there was no way he would have been a lifelong Brewer.

Not taking what the Yankees or Red Sox were offering for Johan Santana and basically ending up with JJ Hardy and Jon Rauch for him.

Honorable mention: The Tony Batista at third fiasco. Rondell freaking White at DH. The Bret Boone after he was done roiding "Playoff Push" move.

Oh, and if they don't keep Mauer in a Twins uniform, I will stop watching baseball.

Not my team but Minnesota got hosed when they traded Bartlett and Garza for Delmon Young. I'd say Tampa ripped them off badly.

This is just a myth that even some of my fellow Twins fans have bought into. I certainly haven't given up on Delmon Young and am excited to see how he does this year. He came on strong at the end of last season and should continue to improve now that he has an everyday spot in the lineup. I mean, the guy has hit .290 and .284 in his two seasons with the Twins and is a career .290/.322/.416 hitter. He is by no means an on-base machine, but he has come into camp in better shape this year and I really wouldn't be surprised to see his power numbers come up this year. I'll take that for a guy that will be batting 7TH...

There's no question Garza and Bartlett have been successful since they left. However, it will be a stretch for Bartlett to have another season like he did last year. Garza is a great pitcher, but when are his antics going to pop up again and disrupt the team?

This trade isn't as lopsided as some believe, and the Twins will probably still win their division with the team they have now even though they've lost the best closer in the game the past 5 seasons.

Re: One move you wished "your team" never made

I'm a Braves fan and my biggest regret was not trading for a relevant closer in the 90s. We did get the one closer from the twins at the end of his career but that didn't go great, B-something.

I'm surprised nobody from the Yankees has mentioned:

Yankees trade Rickey Henderson to A's for Plunk, Cadaret and Polonia
                Golf: Bubba
                MLB: Braves
                Nascar: Smoke
                NBA: Heat
                NCAA: Florida & Miss State
NFL: Whichever team currently has the most of my favorite college players
                NHL: Caps
Tennis: The Joker & Sloane Stevens
                WWE: Dean Ambrose
Misc: Anybody wearing a Team USA jersey

What was so wrong with trading Pedro? You traded a middle reliever for a starting 2nd baseman. Didn't even know enough to start him

Besides, you guys had Darren Dreifort as your up and coming ace. Pedro was expendable

Juan Berenguer is who you are thinking of.

The Braves had an interesting list of closers in the 1990's
Team leaders in saves from 1990-99:
                      1990: Joe Boever 8 saves
                      1991: Juan Berenguer 17 saves
                      1992: Alejandro Pena 15 saves
                      1993: Mike Stanton 27 saves
                      1994: Greg McMichael 21 saves
                      1995: Mark Wohlers 25 saves
                      1996: Mark Wohlers 39 saves
                      1997: Mark Wohlers 33 saves
                      1998: Kerry Ligtenberg 30 saves
                      1999: John Rocker 38 saves

Ya, Sheffield started throwing the ball into the stands on purpose in Milwaukee, he was long done before they traded him, it is unfortunet though he was great and could have done great things for the brewers
