    Re: Where Will Pujols Go

Anyone here been to the Nationals ballpark? Love that place. I also went to Cincinnati and Philly a couple years ago - those aren't too shabby either.

That was a bit random. Anyway.

I don't think Philadelphia will be relevant TOO much longer. Maybe for 3 years or so, but I think they'll start to fade after that point.

That's long enough for them to add another World Series or three.

Other than some 2008 articles proclaiming Fielder's vegetarianism, what evidence is there of this? Not eating meat does not equate to eating healthy. If he "took great care of his body", he wouldn't be fat.

I like it too. It'd be beautiful if the view of the Capitol wasn't blocked.

That is completely untrue. Price was built that way for a reason. He is larger, he comes from a large family. Many announcers have praised Prince for his work ethic both at the plate, in the field and in the clubhouse. Not only is he a great player on and off the field, but they say he takes care of himself and that's why he's not hurt. If Prince was some fat out of shape slob, he wouldn't have the fielding percentage he has, hit over .300 and not be hurt. Sorry, but there are plenty of fat athletes that are in great shape and eat great, they are just made that way.

I think Fielder will stay with the Brewers.

He wouldn't take more money to be with a team that's not much of a contender.

Let's not go over board praising Prince as a good fielding 1B. He is not noted for his "fielding" skills(no pun intended)

He ranks 7th in active 1B in errors, 18th in putouts, 21st in range factor, and 19th in fielding %.

Plus, we aren't talking about Prince's health now, his health in his early 30's to late in his next contract is what is the concern. The older and heavier you are, the more stress it puts on your health and well-being.

                  Re: Where Will Pujols Go

In reality, this really does make sense. The Angels would be happy to give him the money and actually be able to sign one of their big free agent targets (ex.: Crawford, Beltre), and it would put the finishing touches on making their team dominant all-around once again. Plus, he would be the biggest name in all of Los Angeles sports.

The Cardinals can't afford him anymore with the contracts of all the big-name pitchers and Matt Holliday, and they didn't leave much room for Mr. Pujols. Especially now after Carpenter's extension. Someone even wrote something on ESPN saying the GM Mozeliak is "bolstering the roster" to prepare for Pujols' departure.

The only other team I would think would be able to sign him would be the other Los Angeles team, the Dodgers. I think he's going to an LA team no matter what, but more likely the Angels. I'm calling it now and I will not budge from this prediction.

                    Fielder himself is less optimistic.

Don't you remember? They took the money they were saving for Crawford/Beltre and gave it to Vernon Wells instead. Right now the Angels have 9 players signed for the 2012 season for $105M. Kendrick and Aybar are arbitration-eligible and will get raises to $10-15M between them. Assuming everybody else on the roster is making minimum-wage, including their 4th and 5th starters (very unlikely), you're looking at $120-125M before adding Fielder. In that case, I suppose the Angels could give Abreu away to somebody (they'd have to eat his 2012 salary) and instal Trumbo as the DH. Not impossible, but seems far-fetched.

Two months ago, the Dodgers declared bankruptcy in order to pay the players they currently have (in addition to the ones they don't -- they still owe Manny and Andruw Jones about $30M between them). The case won't be settled until the 2012 season is well underway. The only high-priced free agents the Dodgers are signing this offseason are lawyers.

The only money LA will spend right now is the money to try and lock up Kemp/Kershaw...and to pay McCourt's lawyers.

Dr.Jones is absolutely correct in all of this. The Angels are willing to spend money, they just do it badly. Not even mentioned here is that not only having to pay all of those players they will need to find AB's and playing time for Mike Trout and Peter Bourjos and the desperately need an upgrade at 3B and the team is not completely sold on Jordan Walden as the Closer and may need to spend money there as well.

The Dodgers you can forget. They do not/will not have the money to sign either player and there is no way the other 29 owners are going to allow MLB to help the Dodgers sign Pujols.

If the Mariners want to spend money, getting Fielder would be a good idea.

Having Jack Z as the GM could actually help this as he and Fielder supposedly have a good relationship. The problem with trying to get Fielder to Seattle is that everyone (including Prince) knows his power numbers will probably decrease at Safco Field, especially if the Mariners can't sign another big bat to protect him in the lineup.
The last big power hitting former Brewer First Baseman the Mariners signed did not work out too well but it could be possible.
