Re: Pirates Will Be Back
And how long will these guys stay together? Same was said about Nate McClouth and look what happened, he's gone.NHL: Buffalo Sabres, Chicago Blackhawks
OHL: London Knights
MLB: Miami Marlins, Toronto Blue Jays
Frontier League baseball: London RippersComment

Re: Pirates Will Be Back
The Pirates did well to trade away a good chunk of their team for younger, cheaper and probably more talented prospects, especially since they won't figure to be competitive immediately with Sanchez, McLouth, Snell, etc., players that will take up payroll or are on their arbitration years that are easily replaceable.Comment

Re: Pirates Will Be Back
I wouldn't be so sure of that. The Pirates are finally starting to get some talent on the MLB roster and in the minors. They won't be "back" this year and probably not next year, but the year after, I expect to see some movement. They should have a nice nucleus on offense with McCutchen, Tabata, Alvarez, Sanchez and crew. My biggest concern is the rotation. I'm hoping Lincoln will be good, Bryan Morris turns up as good as the projections, Alderson will be good, Daniel McCutchen has already showed some flashes etc...
The reason I doubt the O's will be back before the Pirates is a much more difficult division. The Royals don't seem to have clear direction so I don't think they'll be back before the Pirates.Last edited by mjb2124; 03-16-2010, 08:01 AM.Comment

Re: Pirates Will Be Back
Yes, because McCutchen is a fifth-year veteran player in his arbitration years and the Pirates have a top CF prospect waiting in the wings in the minors to replace him.

I like your optimism, but at this point I have to see it to believe it. I also have to wonder about your allegiences, your username implies that you're a Cincinnati fan.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: Pirates Will Be Back
I think some of you guys are underestimating the talent that lies in the Pirates org (while not great, it's getting better) or overestimating some of these other teams. Not to mention the much more difficult path the O's have to get to success than the Pirates (ie: horribly difficult division).Comment

Re: Pirates Will Be Back
Of course the Yankees outscored the Pirates in that World Series 55-27. It's amazing what a little bit of luck and good timing can do.Comment

Re: Pirates Will Be Back
No way on the O's. They play in the toughest division in baseball. The Pirates have a much better chance at seeing success before Baltimore.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: Pirates Will Be Back
1. 2008 Rays say hi
2. Not only do the Orioles have a promising young player at every position but 2B and SS, but they are capable of retaining most of them. Our 2007 payroll was nearly $100 million. I don't foresee the Pirates spending that much money. KthxbyeComment

Re: Pirates Will Be Back
Besides, other teams have shown that you don't necessarily need a big payroll to have success. The Rays 2008 payroll was only $51,020,720. For comparrison, the Pirates was $50,764,410
