Throwing Out At Second - Catcher to 2nd Base - Any success?

I play WSB 2K3

No I was wondering two things:

1. In real baseball, how often do catchers in the majors pick somebody off at second? I know IRod can do it quite frequently, but I have Sandy Alomar (through a trade) on my Rangers, and every team in my division is killing me with the steals. I use the Rangers, of course, but how good are catchers at throwing people out in real life?

2. Who has success at throwing people out? I know my pitchers have never picked anybody off at first, nor have my catchers been able to pick anybody off at second or third. So if you had success in this category, mind sharing your secret(s)?

Thanks. I'm just frustrated about not being able to ever thwart the attempted steals.

While I had the game, I didn't have that much of a problem with Jorge Posada on my A's(I did a pre-draft before starting my franchise). i think reaction time is the key. You need to be ready to hit the 2nd base button the minute you hear, "He's breaking for 2nd!". I think he had a 50% success rate, but most of the ones that got through were because i just didn't react in time.

Doug Glanville is my leading base thief, as well as leading the majors with 10 steals so far. He has only been playing about 7 games (I'm 4-10), starting 6 of them.

You're also going to need a catcher with an "Arm" rating of at least 75 to be any good at it.

The CPU would pick me off a couple times, but once again, my reaction time to such things stink, but I got better at it. Picking off the CPU was pretty much an impossibility for me, much like it is in real life.

As far as I know, you can't pick someone off 2nd or 3rd using the catcher. You can throw them out when trying to steal, but not pick-off...it sure would be nice if we could!
