Huge Baseball videogame new...Midway and Acclaim COULD drop out

from IGN.com, nothing is official yet...only a rumour
    </font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font><hr />

    Baseball Dropouts for Spring 2004
According to the sell-through numbers on Electronic Arts' renamed debut baseball game, MVP Baseball 2003 sold better than most, if not all, of its competitors, including Acclaim's All-Star Baseball 2003, 3DO's High Heat MLB 2004, 989 Studios' MLB 2004 and Midway's MLB Slugfest 20-03, which is neither here nor there out of context.

But apparently because EA's game performed so much better than its competitors, Acclaim and Midway may back out of the baseball market this upcoming spring. And, to date, nobody has picked up the rights to 3DO's High Heat Baseball. That leaves only two to three baseball games left (including 989's, EA's and Sega's). Which is a relief for us reviewers, who simply have to play too many baseball games a year, but it may dampen the spirits of those folks who liked the surplus of games on the market.

That's all for now, just remember that we love rumors, and if you hear any really good ones, we'll post them

i'd rather see 989 drop out and Midway stay in, SlugFest is entertaining from time to time, but i just don't see how 989, after making such bad games in all sports year after year just don't quit

The writing was on the wall for Acclaim as a company so it's not that surprising that they'd drop out. As for Midway I think that there's always room for an arcade game. Having a market full of sim games leaves the casual gamer out in the cold.

As for 3DO's High Heat i'm surprised no one has picked up their rights as it may not have sold well but it had a very loyal following. Tho it's still early and a company may buy the rights.

I'm not surprised that MVP 2003 out-sold All-Star Baseball 2003. MVP is probably the better game.

What I wanna know is why they didn't compare MVP 2003 with All-Star Baseball 2004 (this year's game)?
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a ttoal jmulbe and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

Watch out! Certain Acclaim followers/employees might scream at you for that comment. Trust me, I got the backlash for saying Acclaim isn't doing well and appears to be going under as a company.

As for 3DO, I believe August 11th is the day that some of the documents labeled as the last day for bids (or the accepting day for the bids). So we should know something soon. I expect someone to pick it up....

Maybe Nintendo could pick up the High Heat franchise and make it an exclusive since neither EA and Sega (the two surviving companies, if the above is true) made baseball games for the GC. It's not like Nintendo has put out a Ken Griffey Jr. baseball game for the last 5 or 6 years.
