Right now Oswalt holds all the cards in his hand, because of his no trade clause. So if the Nationals make a great deal to the Astros, Oswalt can say I dont want to go to the Nationals. Basically Oswalt can wish for what ever he wants.

With that being said Oswalt will stay in Houston because
    A. The only team we really hear going after Oswalt is the Nationals
    B. Oswalt has the no trade clause
    C. Money, Money, Money no body wants to give a lot of money to a guy who has a history of injuries.
    D. Who has the prospects to make a worthy deal to get him? Not the Nationals.

I'd love for Atlanta to get him so we could move Kawakami out of the rotation, but I don't think the Bravos have the salary space and/or want to move the prospects it would take to get Houston to pay some of his salary.
In the offseason the Braves were trying to unload the bloated salary they gave to Derek Lowe in the previous offseason so it is unlikely the Braves will get involved.

I heard this being reported on ESPN.. frankly, as a Nationals fan, I don't want him for two reasons.

1)This is not our year to contend so why would be making such a move like this when we wont be serious contenders for about another year or two.

        2) I don't want to give up Roger Bernadina(he is playing awesome) or any other of our young prospects for a guy that only has a few seasons left throwing at an "elite" level. Roger Bernadina has All Star ability. So does Ian Desmond.

          1) I was with you, but after considering this more I'm on the fence.

If we got Oswalt and a RF, I think we would stay in the playoff hunt until the end. But then the real run could be next year.

Oswalt, SS, Zimmermann, and then whoever earns the last two spots.

If we pony up for Werth or Crawford, we would have a playoff lineup to match that nice pitching lineup.

          2) I don't think we would trade Bernadina this year. I'm not sure which minor league prospects it would take to get the Oswalt deal done. There is no way we would trade Desmond.

Anyway, this is what Rizzo is paid to do. Determine if we are one year or three years away and figure out if Oswalt on the trading block is going to be less expensive than picking up a free agent arm this off-season.

This has Rob Parker's fingerprints all over it, so take it with an enormous grain of salt, but:

Who would you have to give up? I could see the Astros asking for either Crosby or Turner as well as someone like Austin Jackson. I know Houston wants to get a big return for Roy.

                    Oswalts boosts his stock some tonight, 8 IP - 9 SO - 4 H - 0 ER.

                    ERA down to 2.35 now.

while I would love to have a pitcher of his caliber in St.Louis, I don't want to happen(don't want to give up prospects for him) nor do I see the Astros trading him within the division.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Hey, they just might. Oswalt will be good and retired before they are any good again anyway.
