      Seventh inning fastball speeds:

      96, 96, 98, 99, 103, 97, 98, 99, 99

      Unreal.

It's true. There's a Pirate fan on another board who's a female and basically doesn't know much, but she tries. She's always complaining that the Pirates never get any nationally televised games on ESPN. Many of us have said time and time again - "If you were in charge of ESPN, would you give them a nationally televised game?". Hell no.

In any case, very impressive debut by Strasburg. It's only the Pirates and I'd like to see him against a much better offense, but the fact remains that his stuff was nasty regardless of opponent.

He'll pitch against Atlanta around June 28 or 29. Might be his first "real" lineup. I put "real" in quotes because our offense is not thaaaat good yet.

                  Close the book on Strasburg:

                  7 IP, 14 K, 0 BB, 4 H, 2 ER, 94 pitches, 65 strikes, 29 balls.

                  2.57 ERA - 0.57 WHIP

I thought I heard that his next 4-5 projected starts are against poor teams.

Just bought tickets for Sunday's game. Only Indians game I care about all year that doesn't involve the Rays!

It's like, Cleveland, KC, Baltimore, and Atlanta or something.

Strasburg's outing requires some perspective in that it was against a very poor hitting ballclub and that pitchers with exceptional stuff (and he certainly possesses that) tend to always have a major advantage when facing hitters for the first time. Still, very impressive. His hook and change are better than I thought, though his change does appear to be a bit inconsistent in terms of location (the movement is excellent though). His two-seam is also a work in progress and he's almost doing the hitters a favor when he throws it in place of his high 90's four-seamer. His four-seamer doesn't have that finish to it that say, Roger Clemens had, but it was consistently 97-99 which doesn't require explosive action. Combine that with an easy and clean delivery and I can see why he'll end up making life miserable for many hitters.

I can see the bull pen blowing for the Kid. This is a lot of pressure on the bull pen!

Though that was a big strike out there!

Carlos Pena just hit a grand slam (his second HR of the game) to give the Rays an 8-0 lead over Toronto in the 6th. Glad to see Pena has woken up.

Great first outing for Strasburg...the thing I am most impressed with is the ZERO walks. A guy throwing that hard should walk some guys and he didn't even have that many 3 ball counts. There are so many great young players coming up right now...baseball has a bright future!
