You didn't really think this comment was going to sit well at this site, did you? Damn! I hate these people who come onto this site and claim they hate America simply because all we do is save lives and attempt to create peace. Do people not realize that the only reason we go into other countries is to SAVE THEIR ASSES???

      Actually, no, that's not true.

Many people hate the Yankees because they symbolize everything that's wrong with baseball. Any league is only as strong as its weakest member. So, anyone who thinks baseball is healthy because the NYY can buy $200 million worth of players better look again. Baseball is in the position it is today because of George Steinbrenner and other reckless spending owners that are not required to share the wealth through some form of revenue sharing.

And, yeah, people DO get tired of seeing the Yankees win year after year because they outspend everyone. That's not to take anything away from Brian Cashman and Joe Torre. Both have done a great job. The Yankees have always spent money since the Boss has been there; they haven't always had good teams. So kudos to Cashman / Torre.

As far as the reference to Yankees = America: I can see the point you're trying to make. Both are often viewed as the "greedy capitalist". The rich just get richer, etc. Perhaps a more accurate description would be MLB = America. Class warfare, so to speak. Thing is, I love both MLB and America, with all its flaws.

The analogy ends there, though. America is the most successful nation in the world largely in part to our "capitalistic" spirit. However, "socialism" rules the day in professional sports. Check the NFL. Equal playing field for all.

So, I love America! But, I still HATE the Yankees.

You would think that is true, but the ratings for last year were poor. Two wildcard teams meet up in WS. One which haven't been to the WS in quite a while, and other is only making it's first appearance. Well, that didn't do well.
The Yankees weren't included, so why did it do so poorly?

If being American means liking the Yankees I am packing my bags and heading to Cuba. I'd rather hang with Castro than support Steinbrenner.
