Nothing too objectionable, but I'd take 7 or 8 other OFs over Braun. He's been so bad in the OF that he's basically neutering his offense.

Morneau over Cabrera, Crawford over Hunter, and Utley over Prado are also my preferences.

On second thought, maybe you should rework your entire NL OF. Ethier is basically in Braun's shoes and Werth isn't even a top 10 WAR NL OF.

I'd probably roll with Holliday, Willingham, and...the 3rd OF is up to you.

                1. What about the stats that matter? Aside from the largely meaningless Triple Crown stats and SLG %, Morneau has superior numbers across the board. Throw in Morneau's superior glove and it's not even close. He's probably the best player in baseball right now. Prado vs. Utley leads me to my second point:

                2. You're also ignoring defense from the equation. Prado has had a slightly better offensive year than Utley (marginally better VORP, slightly higher OPS+) but Utley has the vastly superior glove (7.2 to 1.0 UZR). I can't object either way since they're among the best 2B in the NL, but IMO, Utley has been slightly better.

                3. Batting average needs to be looked at in its appropriate context. Considering Prado and Utley are basically comparable in OBP, SLG, and OPS, the only thing the BA discrepancy tells me is that Prado has gotten somewhat lucky and that Utley, conversely, has been unlucky. That's probably explained by Prado's .364 BABIP (+.20 from his career average) and Chase Utley's .284 BABIP (-.34 from his career average).

And what does the "slightly worse on offense, yet vastly superior on defense" equation turn out to?

Utley having a slightly better WAR (3.2 to Prado's 2.9). I'm rolling with Utley on this one.

Morneau leads the league in OBP, OPS+, VORP, wOBA, WAR, and dominates other first basemen in UZR/150 (while Cabrera is 2nd to last).

The guy is the best player in baseball, right now (emphasis on right now).

I know this is somewhat off topic, but UZR for firstbaseman seems off. I am wondering if maybe it doesn't capture their performance well...I did a study last year because of how low Pujols/Gonzalez finished and what I found is that the trend for 1B isn't very steady. Definitely not gospel and I didn't go much further than that, but I'm just not as confident in UZR for 1B as I am other positions.

Beltre is the best choice for 3B.

AL SS is a whole bunch of mediocrity, so you can go a number of ways there.

True, but looking at career UZR/150 averages (the larger sample size), Morneau still dominates Cabrera (5.2 to -2.0).

Oh, I wasn't trying to make a case for Cabrera's glove over Morneau's. The dreaded "eye test" is enough there with the numbers backing it up. My point was that for some reason UZR numbers for 1B fluctuate for than others it seems.

UZR or not... The Canadian Goalie is one of the best defensive first basemen in baseball, no question about it.

ever heard of over using stats, thats exactly what your doing considering your pulling out stats that relatively mean the same thing.

Cabrera is the superior hitter and quite frankly is not close cosidering the number last two years.

Prado leads the in mult-hits games(14) and is likly to end up with 200 hits play way better defense than utley.

piece of advise: lose some of the stats.
