Re: July 26th - August 1st MLB Discussion
More on that "I never refused the ball" comment (which Strasburg didn't do either; it was the coach's decision):
"Bunning is remembered for his role in the pennant race of 1964, in which the Phillies held a commanding lead in the National League for most of the season, eventually losing the title to the St. Louis Cardinals. Manager Gene Mauch used Bunning and fellow hurler Chris Short heavily down the stretch, and the two became visibly fatigued as September wore on. The collapse of the 1964 Phillies remains one of the most infamous in baseball history. With a six and a half game lead as late as September 21, they lost 10 games in a row to finish tied for second place."
Perhaps Bunning should have "refused the ball."I write things on the Internet.

Re: July 26th - August 1st MLB Discussion
Fangraphs' projection models have him "slumping" to about a .900 OPS by the end of the year, which is still terrific for a catcher.
I think you're seriously underestimating how good Strasburg has been this year. He's been putting up historically great pitching numbers for a rookie.
Garcia's not even in the same galaxy. Neither is Gaby Sanchez and his relatively pedestrian numbers at 1B. Heyward is solidly in 3rd place behind Strasburg and Posey.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Posey is my choice for ROTY though. Assuming he doesn't fall off a cliff, he'll still be putting up Joe Mauer-like numbers by the end of the year.Last edited by Chip Douglass; 07-30-2010, 03:19 PM.I write things on the Internet.

Sent 18 batters to the plate in the inning, a couple guys had multiple hits in the inning.
What is awesome though? All runs were scored with 2 outs, every single one.
Barmes doubled to lead it off
Mora singled, Barmes to 3rd
Fowler struck out
Spilborghs struck out
Then 11 straight hits including 2 homeruns
Walked 2 more
Then Ian Stewart flies out to deep left center to end the inning nearly hitting a grand slam7 National Championships
