It's a right he shouldn't exercise considering his senility.

More on that "I never refused the ball" comment (which Strasburg didn't do either; it was the coach's decision):

"Bunning is remembered for his role in the pennant race of 1964, in which the Phillies held a commanding lead in the National League for most of the season, eventually losing the title to the St. Louis Cardinals. Manager Gene Mauch used Bunning and fellow hurler Chris Short heavily down the stretch, and the two became visibly fatigued as September wore on. The collapse of the 1964 Phillies remains one of the most infamous in baseball history. With a six and a half game lead as late as September 21, they lost 10 games in a row to finish tied for second place."

Perhaps Bunning should have "refused the ball."

Bunning has certainly earned a spot in the assorted morons thread.

I think you're seriously underestimating how good Strasburg has been this year. He's been putting up historically great pitching numbers for a rookie.

Garcia's not even in the same galaxy. Neither is Gaby Sanchez and his relatively pedestrian numbers at 1B. Heyward is solidly in 3rd place behind Strasburg and Posey.
K but this is just what I think it's called rookie of they year not rookie for A few months, strasburg has like what 8 starts he's on the dl now and he'll prolly only have a few more before they shut him down

It looks like we were talking in different contexts (you were looking ahead to the end of the year; I was talking about current performance), but IMO, 2-3 terrific months from Strasburg > an entire year's worth of average 1B production/above-average pitching. He's currently out-WARing Sanchez and Garcia.

Posey is my choice for ROTY though. Assuming he doesn't fall off a cliff, he'll still be putting up Joe Mauer-like numbers by the end of the year.

Then Ian Stewart flies out to deep left center to end the inning nearly hitting a grand slam
