Because its' reality we live in. Brady Anderson anybody? A-Rod , too. Pettite...the Mitchell list. Everyone says steroids don't help you hit homers. Yet the people on them, hit them. That's a statement that doesn't pass they eye test. If my family jewels are gonna climb back to my stomach, I'm damn well believing that I'ma hit some dingers, to make up for my lack of dingus.

I think it's safe to say Jose Bautista is not a fake.

I was expecting to see him struggle out the gate, but he is still producing...with a flukey season like Aaronn Hill's, I thought history was repeating in Toronto.

Dude's a legit STUD. I love watching him hit. Definitely doesn't get cheated.

I thought he would definitely struggle this year, but from watching him, you can tell he's similar to other historic power hitters, in that he walks a ton, and usually only gets one pitch a game to hit, and typically clobbers it. That missile he hit yesterday (I think? Maybe two days ago) was about as hard of a hit as i've seen in a long while.

I still say he just matured as a hitter and took advantage of his strengths. I still dislike the deal Toronto gave him, but I also understand they had to do it.

Interestingly Pirates scouts back in the day projected him to be a power hitter once he matured.

I still think a lot of credit has to go to Cito Gaston and Dwayne Murphy for helping him modify his swing and approach to the plate. If that's the only good thing to come out of Cito's 2nd tour of duty in Toronto then it's a good thing that is paying off in huge dividends.

What has Cito Gaston not done for Toronto? Guy should run for office.

Re: Jose Bautista - Rake or Fake?

I doubt Bautista's power is aided by PED's. I've worked for the Jays for the past two years and seen him around quite a few times. His body hasn't undergone any noticeable transformation —he's still a pretty average sized guy, and even in BP I've rarely seen him crushing balls to center or the opposite field. It seems to be pure technique with him. It does seem like most of his homers this year have been solo shots though. He just doesn't get pitched to with men on base.

Throw him something he can turn on quickly and he'll take it out to left a good number of times. Throw him something a bit more challenging and he can get a single or a double out of it. Throw him a ball and he'll probably take it.

Bautista might be leading the league in HR's by a bit wider a margin had he not missed the whole Oakland series for the birth of his child.

Like others have said, it seems like Bautista's success is just him maturing as a hitter.

who knows this might be the year of the hitter.

I think he's just Maturing as a hitter.

1 Year is one thing but it looks like he's doing it again.

                                .
That's partly due to lack of offense from the guys ahead of him and while he doesn't get pitched to the same way with runners on base he does get at least a pitch or two to swing at. He's not quite at Barry Bonds territory LOL
