I hate Papelbon, have ever since probably the '08 season when it became apparent he was a colossal meathead. It's gotten to the point where I almost root for him to fail, though it ticks me off to no end when he does. The Sox and Mets should swap their idiot closers just for the Hell of it.

Six blown saves, tied for a career high with a month and a half left in the season, and he just has not looked the same as previous years.
So, my loyalty to Papelbon is gone. Go Away.Comment

Why is Papelbon struggling so much, Bean? I always thought it was because of his love for the mediocre FB but what else?Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: August 9th - August 15th MLB Discussion
Today it looked like he was trying to blow out his arm, hitting 99 on a few pitches. The mentality looks completely shot. He doesn't have the crazed meathead stare in his eyes before each pitch anymore, he doesn't seem as energetic as he was and as annoying as the antics got at times, he's an emotional pitcher who is fueled by his attitude...and his attitude looks gone this season.Comment

Its mostly just Hawk, but I think he brings the quality of the broadcast down so far that Steve Stone could never save it. I think Hawk is a disgrace to broadcasting.Comment

Re: August 9th - August 15th MLB Discussion
Last spring he changed his pitching motion against the wishes of management in order to "protect his arm," as he claimed. It resulted in a wilder Papelbon who lacked the same finish on his fastball. Hitters have figured out he's a one trick pony and his dominance has dissipated. By pretty much any measurement, this is his worst year and it's been a steady decline for a while now. Some of his earlier success was unsustainable (nearly 13 K/9 in 2007, 1 BB/9 in 2008) but he's just not that good this year. Papelbon's xFIP from 2007 to present: 2.90, 2.38, 3.98, 4.25. He's only been worth half a win so far. By comparison, the following closers have contributed the same or more to their team's success this year: Bobby Jenks, Matt Capps, K-Rod, Kevin Gregg, and probably more who I didn't bother to look up. At least he's still out-doing the likes of Brian Fuentes and Brad Lidge though.Comment

Playing a tense game against your divisional rivals. The winner of this game leads the division. Down 3-1. Need to make every opportunity count. Bases loaded, no outs. AND WE DON'T GET A SINGLE RUN???
