I never really thought of Torres as a closer. I think he is better suited for the bullpen/spot starter kinda roll. He is a good pitcher but I think that Lincoln is probably best suited of the players the Pirates have to be a closer.

BTW did the Pirates bring anybody up yet to fill Simon's roster spot?

They hadn't made any announcement as of this afternoon that I had heard. It won't be Bobby Hill. He has to stay in Nashville for 10 days.

Actually, I agree with you from an earlier post: I'd like to see them bring up Dave Williams and put him in the rotation. Also, hope Nelson Figueroa continues to do well. Didn't he have a decent season with the Phillies a couple years back?

I guess there's an unwritten rule saying "The Pirates Shall Not Start A Lefty This Season"

I don't know who I would take out of the rotation to put Williams in for though. Actually, if anyone, I'd take out D'Amico. He's the only one who hasn't impressed me of late.

PS -- glad you enjoyed PNC Park. I was there not too long ago myself (Kip Wells beat the Padres). I love that place. Best park in baseball.

Something else: did anyone actually claim Adam Hyzdu off waivers? I know he could either be claimed off waivers, become a free agent, or go back to Nashville, but I don't know what happened. Not that I'm terribly concerned.

Not sure but I think he went back to Nashville. I think he was one of the people that the Pirates were thinking of bringing up with Simon's roster space.

Hyzdu would be a waste of a spot on the roster. The Pirates didn't go through the whole "Designated for Assignment" routine if they were going to call him back up this year. I'd almost rather see Mackowiak back up -- maybe he discovered the strike zone in Nashville?
