Wow ... I'm at a loss thinking this might be it for Chipper.

Re: Chipper Jones Done For Year, Likely Career
It's unfortunate if this is the way Chipper's career ends but i do think this is the end. Chipper has had back and hamstring problems all year and was on pace to put up career lows in HR's RBI's.
It would be nice to see the Braves retire Chipper and Bobby Cox numbers together. This truly is the end of an era because without Chipper and Bobby there will be no one left from Atlanta's glory days.Comment

Re: Chipper Jones Done For Year, Likely Career
This. ****ing. Sucks. I was in the fieldhouse when I heard from my coach Chip was done and didn't feel like doing anything the rest of the day. I hate how it had to end this way. Easily one of the best players to spend an entire career with one team. Chip is old school that when you think "Braves" you think "Chipper". I can't put it in words how awesome it is that he never changed teams. I mean, this guy has been playing major ball as long as i've been alive. I grew up with him and Brett Favre, and IMO there is no comparison between the two. I just wish he could ride off into the sunset with a World Series trophy like he deserves. And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Re: Chipper Jones Done For Year, Likely Career
It is really hard to get into the Baseball HOF, but I would say he has a good chance. If he had 500 HR he would be a lock in or if he had 3000 hits. But he does have a life time average of 306 and over 430 HRs. How many gold gloves those he have?Comment

Re: Chipper Jones Done For Year, Likely Career
Scored purely as a hitter, he might be the best third baseman of all-time; he has the highest slugging percentage of any third baseman, and the highest OPS, and is third or fourth in on-base (depending upon if you count Edgar Martinez).
I'm not a sabredude so I don't get caught up in the WAR whatever but that's a good article.Comment

Chipper's a HOFer, but it depends on how others think of him. I think he will get in, and should get in.7 National Championships

5 Heisman Trophy Winners
#1 in weeks ranked #1 in AP Poll
#1 in weeks ranked top 5 in AP Poll

If you take a good look at his numbers(especially the "saber" ones..), there is really a strong case for him retiring as one of the very best 3rd basemen of all time. Now, more than everComment

I was reading that article earlier today, and even though I'm a complete Chipper homer, I was still surprised to see how truly special he has been over the course of his career.
