    Should baseball relegate teams??

I love how football leagues (soccer) around the world regulate teams that don't perform good during the season. I'm looking at the standings, it's always the same teams in the bottom pit. I think MLB & MiLB should start regulating teams. It would give the game more of an interest. Make the owners try harder and spend their money to get better players instead of hoarding it.

    I think you mean relegation.

And I don't think sending down the Pirates to get the Padres AAA team (for example) would work as well as you think it would.

If there were divisions in MLB, like Top Division, Mid Division, and Bottom Division, that could work.

      Or in other words:

      Rich Bastard Division
We're rich but don't really wanna spend money Division
No one wants to see our team and we got no revenue Division

Seriously though I think a setup like that would be better then what we have right now as it would bring some competitive balance and introduce new blood into the playoffs. The relegation idea wouldn't work because what if a AAA team is in the majors and the MLB affiliate needs to call up somebody or send down a star player for a rehab assignment? It just wouldn't work.

I love the idea of relegation, but it wouldn't work for the MLB.

GIGGAS is right, there would have to be separate divisions. As it is now, you would just be promoting farm teams. That wouldn't really make any sense.

First they would have to change the alignments into 3 groups.

          AL- 10 teams
          NL- 10 teams
          Bottom- 10 teams

Then the bottom teams in the NL & AL would be sent down and the top teams in the Bottom would be sent up. You are going to end up having team switching leagues or uneven leagues. DH would have to be the same if teams switch leagues.

I think it is a good idea in princple, but it would never work in MLB and its current leadership.

The reason I don't think it would be good is because it could essentially destroy certain franchises. The relegation idea for soccer leagues overseas can work because the people in Europe are completely nuts about the sport. Over here in North America, we have so many different sports to consume our interest. That if the baseball team stinks in our area, generally a lot less people come and spend their money on other sports. Which then leads to the smaller market teams trying to spend with the big market teams even more. But because they can't raise the funds to consistently cover their expenses they either go bankrupt or spend less; probably resulting in relegation which could lead to raising less funds than before. I think relegation would just benefit the big spenders even more.

I think baseball should implement some type of salary cap. But I would like them to implement a cap where guys you drafted/acquired when they were only rookies, didn't count against your cap. But guys you sign in free agency or trade for that aren't rookies do count. So for example: Jeter, Riviera and Hughes wouldn't count against the Yankees cap but A-Rod, Teixeira and Burnett would.

I think a salary cap would be better for baseball than regulation.
              MLB: Texas Rangers
              Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
              NCAA: SMU, UTA
              NFL: Dallas Cowboys
              NHL: Dallas Stars
              NBA: Dallas Mavericks

I don't think breaking teams up by revenue would be good at all. That would just make the playoffs absolutely terrible. There needs to be a salary cap and a salary floor plus owners need to be held accountable and show that they put every dime they get from revenue sharing back into payroll.

relagating & salary caps dont fix the problem. Longterm losing is due to incompedence.
I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....

                        Relegation has no chance here.

As stated, cities in this country have too many sports options. Once an MLB team is unable to compete for a championship the franchise would probably have to be sold and relocated. Nobody here is going to go to see a team that that isn't even able to contend and would probably end most fan support.

The only franchises that would support MLB relegation are those in the NFL, NBA, NHL, and even MLS as those stand to benefit heavily if MLB support dies out.

Cap and floor please and approve owners who are in this to win championships instead of maximizing profits at the expense of the club.
