This will obviously help the Sox, but I don't think it's enough. When (if) Morneau comes back (I really hope it's soon), we more than make up for what Chicago has added. Plus, Manny can't help their bullpen. It's like a parade of walking gas cans once you get to those guys.

    For a bit of perspective....

In 2007 when Tyner did a ton of DH'ing, the Twins got a .737 OPS out of the DH spot.

The White Sox have gotten a .715 OPS out of their DH's this year.

Morneau isn't going to contribute anything more this year, may as well accept it now. Every report from the Twins over the last month has been exactly the same, "he's progressing with no time-table for return."

What a great low-key acquisition that was for the Twins. Partially redeems himself for the Matt Capps debacle.

I don't know why the Twins haven't tried to bring in any pitching over the past two seasons. They're a world series team with a better rotation. From the rumors I read, the M's wanted Hicks/Ramos for Cliff Lee, so I get why they wouldn't make that trade, but there were other opportunities out there and they never capitalized on them. Oswalt and Haren were out there too, and both of them were traded for next to nothing, downright horrible returns from seriously dumb franchises.

Kyle Gibson might be a stud, but he's not helping them right now. I'm not saying trade him in particular, I definitely would not trade him. But they could have traded somebody, considering Gibson, their future ace, is still a ways off, and they have a good enough MLB unit right now to compete for a championship.

That's absurb. No matter how much I loathe a player, if it's only until the end of the season (and he's gone) I will not sacrifice the playoffs just so he won't be on the team.

To be fair Oswalt probably wasn't going to waive his no trade clause to go to the AL unless it was with the Rangers and Haren has not pitched that well with the Angels so far.

The White Sox made this move in part because of the lack of offense from the DH spot and because they were ripped by fans and media when Jim Thome hit the walk off homer against them on aug 17th because of the idea that Thome should be playing for the White Sox. For a month Manny can probably be the team-player and do what ever Ozzie asks of him, just like he did in LA in 2008. However, this more than likely Manny's literal last chance in MLB and having burnt his bridges in two cities in the last two years he blows it in Chicago he doesn't play again.

Color me absurd then. I think he's a clown and would rather not have him on the team.

I gave up on the playoffs after they fell 5 games back after the series against Minnesota. With Matt Thornton and to a lesser extent, Putz on the DL and Bobby Jenks being bad, I just don't think they have a shot, but who knows maybe I'm wrong and Manny will carry them all the way through October.

Stranger things have happened I guess...

That's my point though. If Manny was on the team and you were able to go the playoffs (hypothetical currently, of course)...you still wouldn't want that?

I'm just glad he's back in the AL and out the NL.

I feel ya man, I don't like it either. The guy is more trouble than he is worth at 38 years old. Sure, he could come in and mash for a month, but with our pitching hurting (especially bullpen) the way it is, I do not have high hopes. I don't know if I would go as far to want to sacrifice a playoff appearance, but I definetly see where you are coming from.

What I think is really dumb is that he isn't even in the lineup tonight. If you get the guy for a month, he should be in the lineup every day until the end of the season.

                      Should be interesting regardless.

Manny coming to the Sox can do nothing but help the team in the short term and not do damage in the long run. If he comes in and performs like he should, then he significantly helps our DH spot. A spot which is probably the worst in the AL. Now, if he becomes a big bust, then he's gone at the end of the season. No harm, no foul.
