There's a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference between being a "great player," and being "the greatest hitter in the history of the game" which Rose is sometimes viewed as.

Only twice in his career was he even the best hitter on his own team. When he won the MVP in '73 both Perez and Morgan (who should have won) had superior offensive seasons.

And while there is something to be said for longevity (you have to be good to hang around, right?), I am wary of players who played at an average level or so and yet accumulated a lot of stats do to that. Not saying Rose falls in that category, but just because a guy gets a lot of hits doesn't impress me.

I do believe Rose's accomplishments deserve to be in the HOF, but I also believe he should be punished for his actions. I say uphold the lifetime ban and then let Rose in after he dies.

I've never said he was the greatest hitter. But he is a great hitter.

I think that the MLB lifting the ban for one day for him, was a mistake from them. I will say, I absolutely think he should be in the Hall of Fame. And I think now, since they let up on him for one day, there will be more of a push to get him in.
