Wasn't Choo suppose to serve in the Korean Army after the season?

Yes, but if Korea wins a tournament they are having this winter he will be let out of his obligation. There are also some other ways he can get out as well.

Yep, we were one game away from the World Series in 2007.

Ryan Braun is not Shin-Soo Choo. That's like asking if I was depressed that the best food item in my lunch bag was an orange when I'm depressed over an apple (yes, the apples-to-oranges comparison).

What I meant was I fully am aware of who the Indians have on their team. I'm looking at their pre-2000 lineup and scratching my head over what "great players" are, or which kinds of players should be candidates for "best player on the team." Obviously if the Indians had six Shin-Soo Choo calibur players, I wouldn't be complaining. But then again, neither would he. The fact that he is carrying the team as the most prominent player needed in that lineup is relatively depressing, yes. I don't seem to think that's very out of proportion.

Perhaps not over their careers, but statistically this season Ryan Braun and Shin-Soo Choo were the same player, Choo with more bags and a better OBP and Braun with slightly more slugging and HRs. And they're only one year apart in age. I guess it just seemed like an odd comment to make.

He'll be entering his first year of arbitration.

He should get a hunk of change; I find it staffling to a degree looking at how much he's gotten paid the past couple of years...he hasn't even acheived $1M in 2 seasons worth.

I'm not sure how much you know about baseballs contract system, but that's how all young guys get paid for their first two or three seasons in the majors(besides those like Longoria who sign extensions). Teams can pay them whatever they may like, but they must pay the player at least the minimum($400,000).

That would certainly suck if you were good but got paid little, and then you had serious injuries before you made some real money. But I guess that's why you see guys like Longoria sign extensions to guarentee them money just incase, even if they are potentially sacraficing a lot of money in their arbitration years.

Oh I know, and it's quite frugal for the teams to get great years at low costs. I personally think the model ployed by Ryan Braun and Longoria is great as it assures the player good $$$ at teh risk of possible injury or simply bad years. It's not like the player would know the difference between 10 and 20 million.

Don't forget that the Indians finished dead last (30th) in attendance this season. It's crazy to think that they were 4th in attendance less than a decade ago in 2002. Talk about a fall from grace...

I did my part. Went to 5 games. Such a sad statistic.
