So you have no sympathy for Minnesota, Kansas City, Toronto, Florida, tampa and Montreal?

Minny, KC, Toronto and Florida have all tried either in the recent past or right now to play with the big boys but whether it be because of tight fisted ownership (Minny) mismanagement (Florida and to lesser extent TO) and waning fan attendence (all cities cept for TB which never had fans)

These teams have all tried to play with the big boys. They have all developed good talent over the years and have had some success (cept TB) Now just because they don't have the money doesn't mean they don't want to win. I think it's kinda ignorant to sit high and mighty saying "WOOHOO Yankees are the best we can spend all this money"

In the end it's the teams like the Yankees who overspend that end up setting the market value for players and put these players WAY out of the small market teams' price range.

It's all due to cause and affect. it'd be nice if Matsui II went to a place like Toronto or KC or TB instead of going to teams that can cherry pick who they want.

I wish every person and every country in the world felt pity for those who aren't up to their standards.

Again, let's not change the subject of this thread.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up playing for the Mariners.

I'm not even going to try and understand that, but I agree let's not argue about the fairness of baseball. It's an unfair game. But so is life. Move on.

But I do think the draft is a good idea because it creates order amongst the chaos-- if anything it provides the 'illusion' of a community of baseball, where all the teams get a shot at all the players. I think it's important for the game that no team be kept out of the loop.

At the same time, give Matsui II the right not to accept a deal-- as real draft picks do now. I was reading in 'Moneyball' that in 2002 the Mets got Scott Kazmir in the 12th round not because he was the 12th best player but because a lot of the other teams didn't think they had a chance of signing him...

So if the Yanks or M's want Matsui the SS so bad let them buy him from the team that drafts him. Personally, I don't see that happening. If the Yanks or M's simply don't agree to play ball, then that team lost a draft pick. I'm sure Matsui the SS's agent will inform any prospective drafting team where Matsui stands. It's really not worth the risk. I think the team that drafts him will have the intention of signing him.

In the mean time, I guess the M's look the strongest to get him. Maybe that's why they've been such cheapwads lately.
