    Re: Pirates Fans!!

The LA Rams were never "beloved" there were a lot of hangers on following the team back then even when they were good for a stretch in the late 70s thru the mid 80s.

As for PGH losing the Pirates, I'd hate to see it as it's one of the most traditional baseball cities in all of America. The problem has been that they're in a small market and management has really let the fans down.

BTW there are only 2 cities I can think of that are viable cities to put MLB in. Portland OR and the DC/virginia area. Other then that there are really no places to put a ball club in. MLB has really over-expanded to the point that there are no viable locations anymore.

I'm somewhat optamistic that the team will be a lot better in about 2 years. Assuming their prospects pan out, of course. I'm more optamistic this time, because Littlefield doesn't seem like he wants to rush people to the bigs and ruin their careers (*cough* Chad Hermansen *cough*)

I think the next 5 years will essentially make or break major league baseball in the city of Pittsburgh.

The organization is going to have to start competing. And, by competing, I'm not saying that every year they need to win a division title. But, competing for a wild-card berth every season would greatly rekindle fan interest.

Dave Littlefield has a definite plan in place. It's not always easy trying to guess his next move, however.

In two years, the Pirates should have a core group of the following to choose from:

            Rotation:

LHP Ollie Perez, LHP Sean Burnett, RHP John Van Benschoten, RHP Kip Wells, RHP Ryan Vogelsong, RHP Josh Fogg, LHP Dave Williams.

            Relievers:

RHP Duaner Sanchez, LHP Mike Gonzalez, LHP Joe Beimel, LHP Frank Brooks, RHP Mike Lincoln, RHP Salomon Torres (still think he'd make a good closer).

            Infield:

Freddy Sanchez, Bobby Hill, Jack Wilson, Jose Castillo, Carlos Rivera, possibly Jose Bautista and Walter Young.

            Outfield:

Jason Bay, Tike Redman, Tony Alvarez, Josh Bonifay, Shawn Garrett, Chris Duffy, J.J. Davis

            Catcher:

Ryan Doumit, JR House (if he stays healthy), Chris Shelton
