Source: #Cardinals' offer would have given Pujols about 10th-highest salary in game. Likely translates to $19M-$21M per. #MLB -

Re: The Albert Pujols Saga
Pujols pretty much deserves about 7Y 200 M dollar contract. A lot more or less than that means the cards are probably thinking about rebuilding or trying to punch themselves."My body could stand the crutches but my mind couldn't stand the sideline"- Michael JordanComment

Re: The Albert Pujols Saga
However, paying anyone that much money (unless you have a gigantic payroll) can really financially hurt the team, and make it harder to put pieces around a player. They're basically putting at least 40 M into Holliday and Pujols, and maybe over 50 M into those two and Carpender. That's a lot of money in three guys.Comment

Re: The Albert Pujols Saga
FWIW, Jon Heyman is reporting that the Cards' offer was 8 years at 200M+, which makes more sense. Also makes sense that Pujols would reject it, as someone will offer more once the season ends, barring a catastrophic injury.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. I think that when its all said and done he will be a Cardinal, but the price is gonna be insane. IMO,Comment

Re: The Albert Pujols Saga
Yeah, I really don't see any way Pujols leaves. This is just typical business stuff.
I don't think there's any other team that's going to throw 300 mil at him.Comment

Re: The Albert Pujols Saga
I can see the Cubs being stupid and throwing whatever it takes to get Pujols until he is 40. I don't like it, but Jim Hendry is stupid. Soriano part ii.Comment

Re: The Albert Pujols Saga
Pujols' last contract offer from what I've heard was 8 yrs worth over $200M(ballpark was around $220 I believe), which would put him at around $25M a year.
While they say that no negotiations will take place, I guarantee that STL is working on it and will bend the ear of Pujols' agent throughout the course of the season.
And before all is said and done, he'll be a Cardinal.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

There is no way that The Franchise could be anything but a Metropolitan.

Re: The Albert Pujols Saga
Albert can and will get more elsewhere, I just hope it isn't from the Cubs but realistically thats what I expect will happen.
I'm not entirely opposed to letting him walk, I would prefer to keep him but if he truly wants 10 years he needs to find it elsewhere otherwise we'll be the Giants with only Bonds all over again.Favorite Teams:
NCAA- University of Illinois Fighting Illini
NFL- Cleveland Browns
MLB- St. Louis Cardinals
NBA- Boston Celtics
NHL- Chicago Blackhawks

Re: The Albert Pujols Saga
When you really stop and look at it there are not too many options for Albert outside of St.Louis.
The Yankees: if C.C. opts out of his contract at seasons end (doubt he will but he said he hasn't ruled it out) the Yanks will be down another starting pitcher, thus have to throw a lot of money in that direction. It's also doubtfull that Pujols would sign with a AL team to be a DH or that Teixeira would want to be one either. But they are the Yankees and you can't rule them out.
The Red Sox: will likely have $170+ million comitted to Adrian Gonzalez by seasons end and like the Yankee situation would have to have either Pujols DH or Adrian. But like the Yankees, you can't rule them out.
The Mets: even with a ton of money coming off the books the Mets may not have many coins to rub together after the Madoff Ponzi scheme is ruled on.
The Angels: paid a lot (a lot) of money to get Vernon Wells. Moreno has the money to make something happen but not sure if he would go that high.
The Dodgers: unless the McCourt's are forced to sell they can't afford him.
The Phillies have a ton of money tied up with Ryan Howard.
The Nationals: Have money to spend but Albert probably wouldn't sign with Washington.
The Orioles: Angelos has the money but good luck getting him to spend it.
The Cubs: would have to be the most logical team, but do they have that kind of money and would Albert want to go to a team that is not a consistant contender?.Comment

Re: The Albert Pujols Saga
The Cubs have a hell of a lot more money than the Cardinals (or anyone else in the NL Central, for that matter) and have exactly as many postseason appearances as St. Louis in the last 5 seasons. Two of their many millstones (Ramirez and Fukudome) are coming off the books after 2011. Signing Carlos Pena to a one-year deal was practically screaming, "We're going to throw insane amounts of cash at Pujols or Prince Fielder a year from now!" If the Cubs offer Albert $40-50M more than the Cards can, he's gonna take it.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
