Re: PNC Park Named Best Ballpark

PNC is pretty nice, I only see it on TV though when the Padres play there. The park itself looks great. I don't know why people say it copies Pac Bell with the water in RF, but I have never seen a ball land there. Anyways, I wonder what they'll rate Phillies Ballpark and Padres Ballpark next year. Those two should be good.

Ehh, the Phillies ballpark will be rated below GAB... don't know about PetCo though... it may be a little better. Especially in the open area category, but it's more of a park kind of... like center field.

Uh, anyways, the ONLY person to hit a HOMERUN in the water without a bounce anywhere else was a 479 foot shot by Daryl Ward. Bonds hit one in the river foul 491 feet. Matt Stairs hit one 462 feet into right center that took a couple hops before landing in the water, but that doesn't count. So no OFFICIAL home team river hit for a homerun.

Thats kinda depressing that no one from the Pirates has reached the river on the fly yet. They play half their games you would think they would get at least one.

Isn't it, like, 500+ feet to the river?

As to PacBell vs. PNC, I think it's hard to judge. It certainly does look nice, but I don't know if I could really tell the difference between 93 & 95 without going there often. But I'm just happy we've got a winning team in San Francisco

Re: PNC Park Named Best Ballpark

Muffin - In all honesty, there isn't a bad seat at PNC park. I've sat all over the place and every seat gives the viewer a wonderful view of the ballgame. Even high in the upperdeck (which isn't high at all) it's a good view.

As for the rain, it's really not that bad. This summer's been terrible, but last year I went to about 40 games and don't remember ANY getting rained out. This year I've been to about 7-8 and got rained on twice.

I think it's obvious that PNC and PAC Bell to any non-biased observer are 1A and 1B. They are both amazing parks. I've never been to PAC Bell, but it looks great. I really don't think there's a clear winner, but then again, we are discussing ballparks so it doesn't really matter!!

River shots - It takes about a 480+ blast to get it into the river at PNC park. Ironically during year 1, they had a sign up that was going to count the number of "river blasts". I laughed when I saw it and told my dad "they'll be lucky if that 0 ever turns to 1". It never did. Now the sign is changed to "Bucco Blasts" and only tallies HR's. I think those that came up with the idea didn't know baseball well and didn't know how far a 480 FT blast really was...

Well Ward hit is 479 and made it by about 3 feet.

Good post though... I agree with what you said, BUT with that said, I don't remember one rained out game at Pac Bell yet this year.
